A quick search did not show me a previous proposal for this so here goes:

I propose that new customers in Orientation Island be given a choice of entering the world into a Mature welcome area or a PG welcome area and a choice of Mature or PG default home location.

Prop 466: Choice of Mature or PG Welcome Area & Home

You want to let people who want to curse and talk about sex have a place to hang out from the time they start without having to buy land, is that the idea?

Why not? Better than having them hang around being a pain to newbies.

Yes and no, Sherrianne, it is not as simple as having two distinct groups of people. The same person might want to have a Mature default home part of the time and a PG default home the rest. As an example it might vary depending on the presence or absence of children nearby. My suggestions are separable; we could still have one PG entry point into the world but have the option to select a default home on Linden land in a mature sim.

Interesting thought, but I don't see a need for that in SL. Sounds like a lot of programming for such a small convenience.

Similar to what your saying, I think it would be cool if we had the ability to pick the location we want to start at when at the login screen. There would be a dropdown list that would contain user added locations and, if nothing else, something to indicate "start at place logged off from."

The list would NOT be just the things in your landmarks folder because that would get too long, for me at least. It would be more like assigning multiple "home" locations that you pick at login.

It would be nice to pick from my property, a friend's property, or a favorite spot right from the start.

Mina, what makes you think there would be much programming involved in giving people a choice between a PG default home or an M default home?

It seems to me my idea involves exceeding small programming effort, and might help bring an end to the long standing problems with people not getting along well at the welcome area.

It doesn't make any difference to me either way. And, not being a programmer, I have no idea how much programming would be involved. I just assumed it might require alot.

Philip Linden mentions additional Welcome Area
08-03-2005 11:18
At the Welcome Area recently Philip Linden mentioned we might be needing an addtional Welcome Area before too long.

Hopefully this second Welcome Area, necessitated by continuing growth of the user base, will be M rated, giving people a choice of how they talk and dress and act without violating the Community Standards rules.
