I have bought several outfits and been disappointed at how they look on my avatar after I put them on. In RL, I would go to a fitting room to see how I looked and decide whether or not to buy. I think we should have fitting rooms in SL. Deliver the goods there, don't let them leave the room. That should satisfy sellers and make for happy customers.

This would be nice as I had the same experience yesterday buying clothes at a charity event. I guess once you find a good designer who works for you, you should stick with 'em.

Naughty Designs has demos for their jeans and shoes (I thought that was great).

The good designers usually offer demo's for the pricey stuff.
However, some designers also don't do it because some people can get the demo's for items and rip the textures and now, the prims. Edit the demo marks in PS and for upload fee you have a full rights outfit that someone else made. |

This is a great idea but I doubt it'll be added until LL can get a handle on all the ripping/theft programs. Otherwise anyone could rip the textures or prims and get anything for free. It could also get pricey for the designer to have to upload 2 versions of everything -- the real version and demo version.

Hadn't thought of the copying/stealing problem. But how about using flat, textureless, black garments for the demos just so you can see if the shape of the garment works. It wasn't the texture that was disappointing but the way it hung on me.

Can't a variation of "temp-on-rez" be used for this purpose?
Basically instead of getting a "demo" dress (or whatever you are buying), you get a temporary copy of it which automatically disappears after a certain amount of time. So you can try it on for say, 10 minutes, before your demo dress disappears. This would necessitate changes to the "temp-on-rez" algorithm (or create a new temp-on-rez like feature for this purpose), and perhaps for convenience a new "temporary copy" permission could be added to objects. I.e., the object's "next owner" options would be Modify, Copy, Temporary Copy, Resell/Give away. Sellers will not need to upload multiple copies each item they are selling. Rather they just need to check the temporary copy attribute of such item. Buyers are then free to "Take a (temporary) Copy" of any item being sold without the seller needing to do anything else. When the buyer actually pays for the object, a persistent version is delivered. The copybot issue, while serious, should not affect this discussion. The majority of SL users are honest and would benefit from such a change. -peekay |

Dressing Room at Collezzeum Club
12-12-2006 08:44
Last weekend, I searched for "dressing room" and got one hit - the Collezzeum Club. When I got there, I found the owner - who said it was a mistake. BUT, she graciously agreed to create one - and SHE DID. Visit the second floor. It is really nice. And tell everyone you meet - in appreciation. I am sure the owner will be pleased as this is a new business just starting. Most of the booths, selling items, are still for rent.
