I"m not putting this directly in as a proposal because I"m not sure how feasible this is. But it would be kinda cool.
We're adding p2p, but what if we could TP entire groups of people in a vehicle? It would certainly make things more interesting. People could make a big deal out of Jump Sequences and the risk of a disaster would make secondlife more exciting. The sims could shove the entire asset package to each other so, if it worked, you'd all be there on one peice.
Idunno, just a thought.

Teleportation for vehicles!

Oh my god, WARP DRIVE. That would be great, you could *fly* to an island, instead of having to derez your plane, teleport, re-rez, and take off... those big patches of ocean on the map would suddenly be just patches of ocean instead of The Void.
Simples way, I suspect, would be to treat "sitting" as any other attachment for the purposes of teleporting, so the vehicle would teleport the pilot and be carried along with it...

A more general version of llTeleportAgent that could teleport objects that you own in addition to avatars would certainly be interesting and could be used for this.

Would be neat. I'm still waiting for the day I can cross a sim border in a vehicle without falling through the earth.

What we could do with was to abolish the sim border entirely and have contiguous landscape, or at least larger regions where several servers work as one to handle the different goings-on, in a sort of sub-grid. Then again this might already be how things work, I honestly don't know. It would definitely require some heavy code and archetecture redesign on the network side. Are there any public disclosures of how the grid is set up that can be found and read? Could still have regional borders and whatnot stay the same for purposes of land management, but having the sim border come up less frequently would help a lot with travel. Some of us have spent a lot on vehicles and love them, but have a hard time enjoying them because of bumpy tracking hand-off between sims.

Another suggestion regarding this. Maybe a teleport event that would be triggered when you tp would be in place. This could be used to derez the vehicle into an attachment. To work well an llSit(key avatar, key object) function would also be needed though, to make the avatars resit on the vehicle after being teleported.
