Ok, I was thinking about this - we can use the find panel to find places and people, ect... However, many people come to my store looking for other things, or I'll constantly hear people say they're looking for object x, where object x is something I've seen but can't remember WHERE. Major websites have sprung up to deal with this, and while they work great I would like to see a feature in SL something like this...
Add a "objects" or "objects for sale" tab in the existing find menu. I was thinking have it look through the names and descriptions of objects rez'ed in world that were set for sale and had the "buy" option set and give a landmark to that object, but there are a few issues with this. First, scripted objects like vending machines using scripted "pay"ment wouldn't show up. Second, people don't already type in that much description in the existing field for objects - however I think if this option was added people would start using it and it could take off.
So, then if someone is looking for, say, a "heart particle emmiter" or "red shoes" or whatever, they would be able to get landmarks to objects for sale with that description. Is this feasible? Just use the find>land feature as a template, but I don't how much being able to search every rez'ed object for sale could be more difficult than searching land parcels... Any thoughts?

I got to FIND and I type in shoes when I want to go shop for them or hair and any store that has that item in their description will come up.
So say for your example of hearts emitter try typing in particles and or emitter and u should get a nice selection of places to go to.

While it might be nice to have, I can only imagine the load it would place on the database to search for every last rezzed object in existence and check whether it's on sale, then parse its name/description against your search string. It wouldn't be pretty. Plus people who use scrolling vendors would be excluded from such a system.

I just think that, if it wasn't too much of a trade off and too hard to search through a database of all objects for sale, it might help. Either that or I want more keywords for my parcel to more accurately describe what's there.

I agree with logan to a certain point but i think i have an idea that will improve on his.
What if there was an extra box that people in find couldnt see that store owners could put information in. Store owners could type in a list of their products, if i have a hot pink butt plug in my store and someone wants one really bad, they type in hot pink butt plug, and my store pops up. The whole point to people in find NOT seeing this list of products is because store owners would just use it as an extended description and ignore the whole point to this completly. Just think of it as a key word section to improve on the find system.

I dont care if the storeowner wants to use it for a longer description or type out "butt plugs" and "red shoes" JUST GIMME MORE SPACE IN THE DESCRIPTION LINES!. Would save me 250 bucks every two weeks for a classified ad for buttplugs and red shoes anyway. I submitted proposal 290 to do this. http://secondlife.com/vote/index.php?get_id=290
