Hello, I have an idea and would like Linden Labs and Resident Opinion. What would Linden Labs stance be on XM Radio subscribers being able to stream an xm broadcast into their sim. Of course this might present a mutual venture on both sides. Linden Labs links to XM on their site, generating possible subscriptions. XM Radio Links to SecondLife.com generating the possiblity of new residents. XM Radio for all of those who don't know, is a sattelite radio service that host countless channels dedicated to Rock, Hip-Hop/Rap/RB, News, Comedy, World, and pretty much anything you can think of. You can listen to XM radio in your car, on the web, or at home. What would the consensus be?
Thanks,
Amaraiel Saarinen

It almost certainly violates your XM contract. The funny thing is, you can put on your XM stereo in your home and invite 100 of your closest friends to listen it and everything is fine. However, your XM contract probably says something about "retransmission prohibited" which sending up to an audio streamer is retransmission. Linden Lab has no policy or "interest" in this because they don't participate in the streaming audio, that is, if you stream your XM stuff I could "tune in" with most any audio program.
Personally, I don't see an ethical issue with your sharing your XM stream with your remote friends simply because they are remote and not in your living room, but I don't write the laws or contracts.

This would give LL the idea they could make money selling features; which has never gone over well with the vocal subscriber base.
There was a time when rezzing a prim cost money, (and derezzing you got your money back, in theory) the userbase revolted, likening it to the Boston Tea Party.

XM Whatnow? Is this one of those things you'd have to be a North American to understand?
Of course, I jest - I've heard of it. They just don't exist in UK/Europe. (and may not even have the right licensing in place for some of their content, outside of US/Canada or where-ever their market area is.)
Also, there's a lot of Shoutcast stations which would be very unimpressed if LL gave major prominence to a hugely-funded RL commercial competitor.
