No, really. We need this as part of the building system.

I get requests for the (fixed) hack version from builders at least three times a week. Fact is, this should be a part of the client given the landslide want for it I see in-world.

So. If you want the ability to mirror prims as part of the building system, please post here. And save me from having to hand a lesser version out manually. :p

As for the original idea? Blame Starax. I'm just a script monkey. :)

Editted to add: Tiger Crossing also wrote a version of a prim mirror, if I recall. Seeing the name listed on the forums today - *cough* - reminded me

This is a very basic feature that would be handy on lots of things. Like all those mech suits of armor. And uhhh wings. And other symmetrical schtuff!

This wouldn certainly be cool but I cant see how it's necessary for anyone but the laziest of builders.

There is tons of other stuff worth fixing first, and many other more worthy features requiring Linden attention IMO.

Judging by the way they work though, this will probably rocket to the top of the to-do list at LL.

As a large user of 3D model tools, I find I use such a feature all the time - even just with my "hack" of code here in SL.

A lot of builds require symmetry to work. When that's the case, something like this effectively cuts prim building time in half. That doesn't sound so much laziness to me as it does making it more efficient.

For example, when I work in Anim8or or Blender, I do a fair deal of organic modeling - faces, limbs, stuff like that. I almost never do both sides of a face by hand, relying in full on mirroring and a few edits to make both sides "stick" well. I also use the process for structural building, like chairs and that rocket launcher I was tasked to bring into SL not too long ago.

Applying that concept here, virtually every attachment, house, and landscape artist could benefit from such a tool. Shoes, hats, wings, even entire head attachments benefit from this sort of functionality.

But eh, my opinion in the matter is more or less biased.

A "Mirror" feature does seem basic and one first step to some more complex operability. For example, if we were to ever get "Pattern", imagine creating a spline and creating copies of a prim at intervals along that spline. Imagine you've gone in and slightly tweaked those copies to make each unique. Now imagine that this is one side of a symmetrical object. At that point a "Mirror" feature becomes almost necessary.
