The properties to items need to be mod/copy/trans/NO SELL...
I am sure that I am not the only one, actually I know that I'm not, that have marked an item m/c/t and another player has bought them and 'resold' them at their store. In fact there was just an incident like this involving quite a few textures and the creators of them.
These texture creators and I have gone to the person that 'stole', for lack of a better word, and placed them in her shop for a lower price claiming that we were ripping people off with our prices!
Now, my suggestion is to add a NO SELL option, along with the m/c/t, so that this does not happen again. It's really aggravating to spend time on creating something then have someone IM you letting you know that someone else is selling them in their store!
Feedback on this subject would be greatly appreciated...your pros' and cons' gladly accepted. Also I have started a group in world called "M/C/T/NO SELLers' so if you would like to join please IM me in game...plus you get a T-shirt too to help us get our point across!!

I totally agree. But if you look at previous threads on the forums related to this, you'll see the general consensus is that the person that 'stole' your work is just enterprising and that you have no rights to complain, nor do you have the right to prevent people from selling on anything you create or controlling the price at which they do so.

But...

if they add the 'NO SELL' option we would have a prevention on this problem. I guess jealousy plays a big part in this subject too. The person who resold our textures has absolutely no idea on how to make a texture...not that this is a bad thing, but just not right to steal other's work. Just my opinion...

Quick question.
So if this feature is added, does that mean anyone buying textures packs would not be able to sell anything they created with those textures? Therefore rendering textures you buy worthless, as most would like to sell their creations (not the textures).
Thanks in advance for clarification. Mash

So it would be ok for them to give away the item but not sell it? How would that help a situation where people are undercutting prices?

I think reusing textures is a noble thing and frees database space. I support recycling 100%.
As for "No Reselling", which is what this really is, I don't mind if it were added, but eventually most texturesellers would be pressured into selling their products with reselling OK.

Instead of a "no sell" option, why not do a "licensing fee" option instead? This would allow for objects to be resold, but ensure that their creator gets paid for them. You'd receive this licensing fee from the reseller each time they resell your creation. This makes the economics work the same as they do in real life for tangible products. If I use your "part" in the construction of my product, I'd have to buy a "part" from you for each product I sell. So, if you sell me a linoleum flooring texture and I then use it in the construction of houses, I pay you a flat fee for each of those houses I sell. If my houses have modify, copy, and resell privileges on them and one of my customers takes the house apart and reuses that texture to make another product for sale, you still get paid your licensing fee when they sell their product.

These are all good suggestions...

The 'no sell' I am thinking of would allow others to use textures, per say, on their items they make and sell 'that' item....not just take the texture, put 'it' in a vendor and sell it. More like the 'licensing' idea that Xero had suggested. Hey, I don't want to hurt SL...just make it better!

I think there's one jagged thing this allows for: say NO SELL was a flag that didn't actually block reselling, but just stood out on the item properties. It'd simply be an easier way to judge the intent of the creator instead of having to ask them, "Did you really mean to make this free?" This, keeping in mind future SL permissions are arch-advanced over today's.
