I was gonna point out how this was in SNOW CRASH, but that would be cheap.

Okay, I'm offline sometimes, or in places where connecting to SL would be impossible. (The boonies on dial-up) I'd like an offline sandbox where I can build and script without a) lag b) people constanting running me over or spawning particle bombs right in front of me or c) spawning gagantic replicas of sexual organs in my line of sight.

The sandbox would have, say, the ability to download my inventory, and save states. MAybe some more advanced editing/loading options? When I'm done I can import objects back into SL.

This make sense? Is it doable?

Just my crazy idea, thanks.

if you're somewhere you can't connect to sl how could you download your inventory?

Hrmmm...

Maybe in the 'download now, use later' sense. Save the INV as a file? Maybe make it so I can run the app from a thumbdrive (like i do with Firefox)?

i wasn't busting on you, just asking. :D i'd be happy if sl just stopped downloading my inventory every single time i log in. how about download it once and next time if nothing has changed don't download it again?

i guess they do that to keep people from faking their inventories or using the downloaded copy to duplicate objects that are no-copy? i dunno.

one thing i do know though is something like you suggested would be nice to have but in the couple months i've been playing it's been suggested like three times. alot of people want it but not alot of response that i've heard.

LL could theoretically let us keep an offline copy of our inventory and run an integrity check on the file(s) during the log in process. If the file had been tampered with, our inventory would download from the server.
