When they turn 18. :)

Seriously, I think it's a staffing issue. Since the teen grid must be monitored, when there's no Lindens there, it can't be open. I'm not sure why they can't enlist background-screened individuals from here that can serve as monitors over there.

My daughter signed up for teen.secondlife.com and discovered the same problem, and since we're Dutch we asked about the time limitations. This is the answer we got :

Hello:

Thanks for your inquiry. Currently our Teen Grid is in beta and we are limiting the login hours so that we may best staff the grid to help you discover the potential of Second Life.

Regards,

Linden Lab

When asked when the time limitations would end, they answered they couldn't say just yet...

Hope this clarifies :)

Regards,
Margeaux

I'm pretty sure they're planning on having it open 24/7. I really think, like Aaron said, it's a staffing issue. They just need more folks.

Takes agent by the ear, go to bed young man!!! A question that gets asked daily on the teen grid as well.

Well, now here's an incredibly stupid question.

I thought TGers had their own forums?

How come they're allowed to see stuff in the "adult" forums?

Isn't that kinda defeating the point of keeping 'em separate?

After all, if someone posts in feature suggestions "bigger penises, please", it might hurt their eyes, or something.

To original poster, from the Department of Propaganda:

From: Blue Linden
It's been suggested to me that it would have been better to wait until the teen grid was open 24/7 before amnesty week. Agreed! Unfortunately that wasn't possible. After the next update, transfers will have to be handled differently.

But I should point out that although we can't provide a specific date, due to the variables involved, it's fair to say that a fulltime teen grid is now very close. We've made some big progress on the little grid, especially in the past month and we're all chomping at the bit to move past what is lovingly, but not entirely accurately, referred to as "Teen Grid Beta".

Thanks to those who've sent feedback on amnesty week, and to the many teens who've come forward already :)

As for TG - forum crossover, I have no idea. It seems to be one of those gray areas in the forum guidelines.

Woot. I love to hear from the Teen Grid'ers. Is anyone on the Teen grid blogging regularly?

My son transferred to the teen grid - in fact I think it's his email to the Lindens that got quoted in the amnesty week offer, BUT hey, we're in Australia. And the teen grid closes at 3pm - just as he finishes school for the afternoon. He's really, understandably unimpressed.

I am, really, too. Even when he gets on, I can share nothing of my SL experience with him nor he with me. I can only help him script by leaning over his shoulder rather than being in world. There is less possibility for parental supervision, should someone need it. A calling card on the main grid meant I could pop in anytime. Thing is, supervision wasn't the point. Secondlife was something we have (-had-) in common. Rare enough between parent and young person!

Anyway, now I have a teen who's gone from excited (with me) about secondlife's possibilities to not even bothering. That I can't interact with him is one thing, but that he can't even get online.... Grr. Thanks LL!

I actually had no idea it closed so early, so thanks for the heads up on that.
Like you I am in Australia. I had been considering getting a subscription so my son could play, as he has shown great interest in building, and would like to do his own. I guess though we will just have to wait another 4 years until he is 18 so that he can get to build. That is if he still has any interest at all by then, after being denied access for so long.

Base accounts are FREE tho and Teen Grid looks like it's gonna be open 24/7, well, a lot sooner than 4 years from now. (On a side note, SL's own "Main Grid" was once not even open 24/7, and there was a time Linden coverage didn't extend all hours either.) Hope your son can get on! :)

If anything, a post should be made to Hotline To Linden expressing interest and asking about this!

I wonder what legalitys cover checking out the teen grid? I would like to login and just snoop around and see what kind of stuff they create, there has been alot of minors in the adult SL that have created some mind blowing things, plus i think preteens would spend more time making things because their RL schedule doesnt really conflict other than school etc. I will there was a way to arrange with the lindens a trip to the teengrid, they could mute me..make me invisable whatever, i just want to peak at the content.

If that doesnt work i could just make and alt over there right? Has anyone tested the waters?

Both my son and daughter have accounts on the TG, and it is frustrating for them not being able to log into the Teen Grid for more than 2 hours a day. It doesn't open til 8pm for us (UK), so they don't have long to play before bedtime, and can't go in on weekends during the day.

I really hope they can change the hours soon so that we get the same chance to log in as people in the US.

Billy I wouldn't recommend you try it, it's an instant permaban for any adult found on the TG as far as I know. My kids can only log into SL when they visit me because their own PCs won't run it. They asked me if I'd log them in to keep their accounts active but I won't take the risk of being banned with this account on the MG.

Actually, I know someone who did that. They got banned for life. Both grids. I wouldn't try it.

Hmm, I would also like to see what the teens have created. Perhaps have them post pictures of their creations that they are proud of? I know it's not the same as seeing it in world but if that is the only way we can view it. My nephew is interested in joining as well. Can I not interact with him at all?
