Let us rate our own land!

I feel that to rate an entire sim PG or M is stupid. Each lot should have its own rating. If you are afraid of people getting offended by your content, then we should have an option to get warnings everytime you enter a mature plot! This would make it easier for one piece of land to switch from PG to Mature events flawlessly-allowing linden supported events in a normally mature enviornment.

And on another note: This would also decrease the quickly growing prices of mature land.

You don't want a warning to pop up every 30 meters or so, plus anyone could still move their camera into an M rated parcel by accident. Also, I imagine many of those who own PG land now don't want their neighboring parcels rated M.

I think you just don't want to pay for mature land

I think its a good idea to let people vote on whether or not they want to make their sims mature. It used to be that 3/4 of a themed sim could get the rating changed, but now LL isnt even doing that, I think.

haney posted just this week that even a 100% vote would not effect a change in the sim's rating. i suppose their theory is that you can just go buy land in another sim with the rating you want.

Seeing as this game is for people over the age of 18 anyways? Whats the purpose ot PG land to begin with?

Not everyone likes being subjected to some of the things that happen in Mature areas.

i own 33,280 meters of pg land which is more than 75% of the entier sim because lindens own alot of what i dont own there is only one other land holder that owns around 10k meters of land. i think if you own a certain amount of the sim you should be able to vote on it. and if its fine and dandy with the neighboors get it changed.

I will buy land around all the telport pads and set every other 4 x 4 square to mature.

This is exactly the reason that it shouldn't be allowed. You'd be forcing your neighbor to jump back into the land market fiasco if they didn't want to live in a mature sim.

I think the only way it should ever even be considered to be allowed is with a 100% agreement between all land-owners in the sim (non-Linden). Of course, that opens up great new griefing opportunities for "mafias" to "squeeze" people to vote a certain way, too.

The other angle would be a new form of land speculation. An individual or small group of people with medium-sized tiers could buy up an entire PG sim at (relatively) low cost, get it switched to mature, and nearly double the land value.

In real life, you get subjected to it all the time, you make the choice to stick around and be subjected to it, or you make the choice to leave the offending areas. If you are IRL, against such influences, you take the steps to avoid them, same goes for SL.

In SL you only subject yourself to material you choose to be subjected to.

It's called freedom of choice, like the choice to NOT say One Nation under God, as opposed to denying others the choice to utter those words. You don't like being subjected to potentially offensive material, leave that event, that is your choice. Like HBO, or Cinemax, you prefer to not watch a movie with violence or nudity, or other explicit content, you choose to change the channel. If you want to be at an event, then you make the choice to be subjected to the content of the event. Don't inhibit the rights of others to throw the types of events they want. (read oppression here)

SL is a virtual world, subject to the whims and fancies of it's populace, the last thing it needs is a Purity Patrol.

I know in my real life, if I do not like the people I am around, or the theme of a party or event, I get up and leave, why is it too much to ask of people to respect the rights of others to throw such an event in SL?

You want a clean, Ivory 99.9% pure event, throw one! make it clear in the event description that that is what you are throwing, people, for the most part, respect those wishes, they don't? freeze or boot them from your party. But, don't allow your desire for an Ivory event to oppress the choices of the rest of the populace. This is a game that is to only be sold to adults(per the TOS), then lets all make adult decisions, including the decision to leave events we find offensive, but don't limit the choices we have to decide from.
