I'm just wondering if the lindens plan on implementing a 64 bit enhanced client in the near future?

*blinks*, what is there to be gained? what parts of SL currently emulate 64bit math?

Other than improved memory support (do you need more than 4gb?!) then it wouldn't be much use except perhaps for particles if these were adapted to take advantage of 64-bits where available.

The advantage to to the AMD64 instruction set is not that it's 64-bit (though for graphics-intensive programs that would still be useful), but that it has more and larger registers, so the compiler can do a better job of register allocation. That can make a HUGE difference to performance.
