I would love to see an update that lets avatars recognize their immediate environment and respond accordingly. Examples: 1: I walk to a staircase. Instead of bumping my waying slowly up it, occasionally stopping to jump over a step that's too high, my avatar recognizes that an object that can be stepped upon is immediately in front of it. So it lifts a foot up and onto the step. Repeat until you run out of prims to make a long-assed staircase 2: I am about to take a seat high up in the bleachers at an event. Instead of flying to the bleachers, then positioning the camera so I can click on it to sit, my avatar takes a nice big step up and onto the first bench, then second, and soon I'm at the top and just click sit. 3: I am just wandering around a sim, having a mellow day. I see a shop to check out. There is a fence between me and the shop. Instead of walking up to it and leaping over it in that horrible jump thingy we do, my avatar puts his hands on the fence (or any object at the right height) and leaps it like a schoolkid. Currently when confronted with and obstacel, or avie tries to walk up it, in a very unnatural and sometimes infuriatingly slow manner. This just seems to be a more natural way to handle movement and obstacles.

Nice idea.... too bad it can't be done unless objects are given a "type", that would be changable in the edit window somewhere.
This would also mean tons of calculations to get the avatar's feet to land in the right place, the arms to bend the right way, etc.
Overall, it would be nice, but there is just too much user-developed/custom/obscure content out there, and too many variations of it for this to be possible
Also think about this... how would SL know if you were trying to climb a fence, or whether you waiting for a colision event to trigger to make it go phantom (with a script)

Oh, sure, some fine suggestions here.
One thing that's always baffled me: walking up stairs is usually smooth, but RUNNING up there? A perennial nightmare. BUMPBUMPBUMP.

I dunno just how difficult 'twould be. Have a percentage of the avatar's height that specifies a stepable object, and a portion that is a vaultable object. Doesn't really matter how absolutely realistic it is, just make it better than what it is now, which is bump'n'jump alot.
I think I made up the word stepable.

Stairs are the dumbest thing in SL. You can fly. You are a humanoid avian. For the love of god, when was the last time you saw a bird climbing stairs?
