I dunno what the real purpose for limiting the linking of things, but it would be a LOT better if we could link things from a farther distance, ex. a full building, being able to link it all together.

I would love to be able to link whole buildings, and back them up, and wouldnt have to worry about accidently clicking something and it being deleted, at least if this happens the whole building would go, not just one little piece which would be annoying to put back in place.

You can use a selection box in edit-mode to select all the prims in your build (or select them manually), and then TAKE it into inventory as one un-linked object. If you use the selection box, turn on the <Select Only My Objects> option under <Tools> menu.

this is actually a good question. I understand the need to limit the distance of links in physical objects. but why not allow longer linking and then not allow physics to be set, just like physics can't be set on an object that is more than 31 prims, or interpenitrating another object?
