It has occurred to me from a dream that one tasty way of extending Gestures would be a QuickAttach mode. I'll explain briefly: in a number of First-Person Shooter games, number keys can be pressed to quickly toggle between weapons -- very handy when you're in the heat of a deathmatch counting down and you need that extra efficiency. Simple, works well to BANG BANG BANG!

While SL is not as time-pressured an environment, efficiency is still important here. A certain "liquid interface" with ease-of-use is being worked on by the Lindens, and I've wondered why Function keys (and combinations with the Ctrl- and other keys, for that matter) could not be used to QuickAttach various favorite attachments. Basically, WEAR THEM IN A FLASH! W00T. Guns come to mind right away as a natural choice to "pull out". And this would be an extension of Gestures because you might want to include a custom line of dialog or extra anim. to make the whole procedure very slick and cool.

Preview 1.6 has this funny slide-in blip when you attach objects and they come flying onto your av. That's really cool, and I can't wait to see this taken even further: say you have several favorite hairdos you wanna change through? With a QuickAttach containing a series of events for the various hair attachments, you could easily change your 'style on the sly as your mood dictates or if lag is too great and you wanna change to something more primefficient. Or for instance, you have a specific outfit you need to wear for a certain setting (RPGs like DarkLife and Simcast come to mind!) and don't want to be hassled to Wear-Wear-Wear, but just want a quick ON/OFF switch. QuickAttaches (and their inverse detaches) could be configured for this. Maybe it could even be extended to include non-prim articles of clothing...

That's just a couple of many examples you could use this for . . . let your imaginations run wild! :D

I know my customers would get some great use out of quick attach. Flight assist devices aren't always something you want to wear. But when you DO want them, you want 'em yesterday.

Torley's on the mark with this one.

And SIM Combat, and my own firearms...

I think this is an excellent idea as well! I was thinking about something somewhat similar the other night. My idea was that if an attachment was granted permission to attach, that if it rezzed objects, those objects would inherit the PERMISSION_ATTACH setting so they could auto attach on rezzing. Torley, I think you way is even more flexible and powerful, with the direct ties to inventory. Very cool suggestion. :D

What I would love in this respect:

llToggleAttachments(list attachments, integer src)

Yes, a way to switch attachments via script or hotkeys would be great.

Should they hard-code this function to make that little wailing tune from The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, anytime this is used? :)
