Make Marriage or Partners mean more.

I would like to suggest that marriage (partners) mean more then just a little note with your partner's name in a box. I think it should be treated as some form of grouping. My wife and I would like to share our land and items like we do in real life.

I feel that we shouldn't need to start a group marriae of three or more, just to be able to share land between us. I would like to let my wife be able to add items to our land or adjust OUR radio to a new station when she likes.

In effect, two members would make a group, as long as they are partners. My real world wife is also a paying member of the SL population, and it would just be nice to share things like we do in RL.

What do you all think?

I do think that's very good, and you're reinforcing what some lovely hearts in SL have said before, making more <3 <3 <3 in the process. It can be admittedly inconvenient right now for a couple to have to get an alt -- most likely sign up for another Basic account -- or a "third wheel" in order to form their group.

I think the Partnership idea was originally supposed to have many of those features. Lets hope they are still there on drawing board I'd also like to not have it be limited to just two people. There's polyamorous folks out here too

omg, dude, the lawyers at LL won't allow you to mix your moneys, what if your partner just bails? 'marriages' in SL are fake, the love is real I'm not denigrating that, it's a lovely gesture, but what if you 'marry' someone for their money in SL? say some smooth talking scumbag marrys a land barron and they go for your idea and then as soon as the options are set he or she files for divorce? do they get some of the land barrons stuff? it could get complicated and there's no way LL will allow RL lawyers to get involved as time is money and there is real money in this game and probably real lawyers and real crooks.

Very good idea, i think that LL should make a "web" with relationships like TSO, so ppl can see who your friends are and your "special friend, with benifits" LOL

geez is there enough server space for THAT long of a list?? limbers up fingers to start typing about all of the people I love, decides that limber fingers can be put to good use elsewhere....

well, there is already an option to deed to group, so you could deed to the partnership. Maybe there could be a database somewhere that keeps track of what belonged to whom, partnership disolves, items return to their original owner.

Maybe just a checkbox with, instead of allow anyone to use, allow anyone in group (or partnership) to use?

That's really between the parties involved then, isn't it? The Lindens have a policy they started once the world got big in that they won't get involved in financial disputes between people regarding land, properties, etc. Now say this does occur, a subpoena duces tecum will ask for each residents SL records, but whatever assets are divided are basically assets owned by the parties involved. And that splitting of assets would be determined between the couple and their lawyers.

Lindens, in my opinion, would only lose financially if both parties decided to cancel membership or tiered down. They could always hire more staff to handle expediting records for these cases. Maybe before people partner up, they could have couples read and sign a waiver saying they are partnering up knowing all the SL pros and cons of a partnership and deterioration of it. It shouldn't be left up to a Linden to decide which partner gets what. Have them figure it out amongst themselves.

There's already situations like this in group owned land. Despite the disputes that arise from members, I haven't seen it cripple the Lindens yet. Anyway, I just feel if we request for a more meaningful "marriage" or partnership in SL, then we should also do our part and accept the additional responsibilty that comes with it ourselves.

Heheh ... kinda destroys the whole fantasy aspect of it, doesn't it? Anyways, I'm just thinking aloud. I need breakfast.

Just to throw my 2 cents in here, I have a proposal (#180) in the feature voting system to allow partners to own land (similar to group owned land). If you feel it's worthy, add yer vote.

Only the people involved in the marriage can make it more meaningfull, paperwork and officially sharing under rules and regulations makes it look like one of the couple feels the need to prove their love and wants their spouse to prove their love too by signing the pact, but how is that related to love?

and it's missing the point of why RL marriages have those rules which we know, us adults know, was designed to help the women and children in the event of the major breadwinner splitting.

But these days women are catching up in terms of money and can provide for themselves, a law to keep them from the poor house or becoming prostitues to eat is no longer needed, but it was at one time that's why it was made.

and geeeez I figured the gay-basher yanks would be completely opposed to avatars being married, marrriage is between a man and a woman not avatars!! if gays are 'destroying' the sanctity of marriage what would happen to hetero couples if a furry married a goth? the sky is falling!!!
