I looked at some unofficial SL forums and was quite disappointed.

Some of these forums would have insulted a junior high school student.

Everything from blatantly abusive manner, obscene default avatars, and nasty admins.

I see people who are otherwise quite reasonable at such places and wonder: why do they put up with any of it?

I certainly won't. Something to do with self respect.

If these forums go, I'll post somewhere that is civil, or not at all. Period.

Howdy Desmond, don't know if you had a chance to check out my Second Life Home Page Forum yet, but hope you do. While we only met once in Second Life I enjoy reading about your developments in Caledon and appreciate your helpful responses to many people with questions as diverse as land and technical issues. My forums were designed as a simple transition from the current "Official Forums", reporoducing the entire structure, just using the latest vBulletin release, 3.6. Hope to see you there.

http://sl.stratics.com - Stratics Second Life - has none of those things that you refer to, and we pride ourselves on the standards we set as part of the internet's largest multi-game MMORPG forum site.

Go to "Forums Index" on the left menu to enter the forums to sign up for your free account, then begin posting!

There's a few useful "help guides" there too, which may be of interest to new players.

Check out e-pec.info. If you are interested, I can email you an invitation. Quality forums are expensive. The more advanced features you have the more it costs. I would expect. as the community migrates the forums will advance.

I must admit that yaslf.com seems to have potential.

The SLuniverse.com forums have been around since 2003, originally created as an alternative to the severe moderation in the main forums at the time and lack of specialized content creation forums (which were later added to the main forums). If you have not had the chance, check them out and see if they are the right fit for you. They have been relatively inactive recently, but with the closure of the main forums traffic will definitely pick up.

ty, Coyote.

I'm trying to foster a sense of civility at yaslf. I don't go onto forums seeking dramatic moments, so I don't want anything I create to aide in it's creation. It's going to be a learning experience and I'm sure I'll fall on my face a couple times, but I've used my Second Life for learning and growth so far, no reason to change now.
