Yeah, Sloog.org and Gridmarker.com are VERY similar. I just finished a blog post about the differences, however. See below for the post in its entirety.
I have tried to be as accurate as possible when describing Sloog.org's capabilities. Please let me know if I have anything wrong.
And of course, let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Sloog.org vs. Gridmarker.com
Sloog.org was released about a month after I started developing Gridmarker.com. I was initially disappointed that someone had developed and released a site so similar to my own, but in the end, I felt I could create a more useful site (below are two examples). The fact that similar sites were developed independently speaks to the need for them to exist in the first place.
Here are the two main differences between Sloog.org and Gridmarker.com as I see them:
Gridmarks are Flexible
Both Sloog.org and Gridmarker.com consider themselves “bookmarking services” for Second Life users, but each site has a different model of a Second Life location and how to best represent that model at the web interface. In developing Gridmarker.com, I chose to model user-submitted Second Life locations (”gridmarks”) as closely to a traditional (web) bookmark as possible. Therefore, a gridmark has a title, comment, tags, and a specific location associated with it (resolution of 1m). At Sloog.org, there doesn’t seem to be support for titles or comments, and the web interface displays one location per parcel. Concerning the latter point, the area of a parcel varies greatly; a parcel can be a 16m ad space or an entire sim. That said, if two people were to tag different ends of a sim-sized parcel, the tags would be associated with the same location at Sloog.org (i.e. the same dot on the map). This is not an issue if the intent is to tag the entire parcel, but if you wish to tag a specific area within a parcel, your only recourse is to use differing tags. At Gridmarker.com, one can use titles, comments, AND tags to make your gridmark as specific as desired. At the same time, the GridmarkerHUD can use the parcel’s title and description (if a title and comment are not supplied by the user) when entering a gridmark. Thus, a user can be as specific or general as they wish when entering gridmarks.
GridmarkerHUD is Open Source
I have created an API for objects in Second Life to communicate with Gridmarker.com via LSL. Further, the script that runs the GridmarkerHUD is open for all to modify and reuse. Anyone can create their own objects that communicate with Gridmarker.com.
