why do so many people assume the best time to have an event is on the weekend when the entire family is home clamouring for attention?

It depends on what you mean by European-friendly. European night, or European daytime hours?

I know at least one club that's open European night hours - 11am-5am SL which I think works out to 8pm-2am GMT, but I could be off. (I won't name it, because I don't want to spam, but I'd be glad to send you the name via IM or you can check the picks in my SL profile.) I used to know some others, but not sure they're still active.

If that doesn't work out for you, you could always try holding your own events. It sometimes seems to me that it's harder to get people to come to events at those times. It could just be my perception, though.

Depends, I suspect, on which language group you're talking about. EU citizens may be the largest group in SL, but I bet more of SL's native English speakers come from the USA and Canada than from the EU.

There's a club on one my sims that holds lots of events in EU-friendly times because most of the members are from France, Belgium and Switzerland. That's the same reason most of the conversation is in French, of course. Though they do mostly speak English, and make non-French-speakers very welcome -- if anyone wants a LM for a good French bdsm club, drop me an IM in world.
