Copybot website?

I recently came across some stuff on YouTube which mentioned this website, http://slcopybot.weebly.com/

I went there and this website promotes the positive, responsible uses of Copybot. How interesting I thought.

The way I view it, copybot is like firearm. It can be used for good or bad, it all depends on the person holding it.

I don't do much talking but I've been around since 05. I see a lot of people quick to talk, slow to think and slower still to read other's opinions. They talk about how much "better" Second Inventory is, a program that was made from Copybot, but with more control, and how BAD copybot is and the residents using it.

Is "better" the word we want to use here? I'm all for freedom, and while I am against people doing things which break the rules, if someone is willing to not use copybot for anything illegal, why can't they use it? Why must we say "Well then if you dont want to use it for illegal things, why not just get Second Inventory?" No, the question is more like WHY get Second Inventory and NOT Copybot, IF you plan on using them both for the same, legal, things?

I've been here since 2005 and in that time I've had a LOT of stuff go "missing" from Linden Lab's TRUSTWORTHY databases. So, pardon me if I want to have some sort of backup of it. It's my stuff, I have that right.

So in the end do I think copybot is bad? No, I think it's a tool that's capable of being used for either.

Do I think Second Inventory is good? No, it's a Copybot with restrictions. To restrict us is to say you don't trust us, and you feel that, given freedom, we'd choose evil over good.

I'm pro-backups and as such pro-copybot and in lesser part, pro-second inventory.

Back up your stuff, regardless of the means, it's your stuff, you're entitled to keeping it around as long as YOU want it, not as long as LL keeps their databases in good condition.

Hey hey, I use my bong to smoke cherry tobacco.... from time to time. The bottom line is that the ability is there, so to say that it's purely bad is ignorant IMO.

(but funny connection you made!)

The first ethical question that springs to mind when viewing that site is why does the seller charge 2K when the program is so easy to obtain for free? I do know of legitimate uses for copybot (such as when the perms on an item you've made yourself become completely screwed up).

I find the following statement on the site a little questionable as well:

From: someone
"Isn't Copybot illegal to use on Second Life?"

No, actually it isn't. If you use it for illegal activities, such as copying somebody's item without their permission then yes, it's illegal, so don't get caught doing it.

Don't get CAUGHT??
