Second Life is a big world to learn to navigate no matter what your goal is in using it. For working musicians from the real world, coming into Second Life means all kinds of other things to learn about, from the technical sides of producing a good live performance, to marketing yourself as a performer, working with paying and non-paying venues, learning how to get yourself an avatar that fits your music, finding instrument makers, working with Internet radio stations in SL, and so much more than I could list.
When I came into SL in July '07 to perform at the suggestion of another successful SL pro musician, having the point of view and guiding experience of a real world professional musician experienced in coming into SL really help me out. There are other forums out there, but this new discussion community is designed specifically for the real world working musician who wants to network and interact with other real world working musicians who've made the jump into the virtual world. Our focus is just on performing musicians, not DJ's or other forms of entertainment (not that there is anything wrong with that). So whether you perform solo, with tracks, play an instrument, sing, or have skills and services for this community, we'd love to meet you.
If you are a musician in the real world who has ever written off their musical equipment, claimed performance income on your taxes, listed "musician" on a credit application and spent a substantial part of your working life earning some or all of your money from performing music, and you're bringing that experience into SL, this forum was made for you.
If you're a graphic artist, producer, engineer, venue owner or any other kind of craft in SL that supports live music, you're welcome, too. Non-pro musicians seeking to work as a professional in SL are welcome as well, but our focus is on real world working musicians seeking to expand their performances into the virtual world of Second Life.
Its all new, only a handful of other great musicians from SL are in there, and we'd love to have you, too. Please come by, register and introduce yourself. Thanks!
