Hi All:

I created an account in Second Life a couple of weeks ago and I'm really enjoying discovering all that's here. And now I can say I have a second life. :) But...

I also have a life beyond my first one and this one. I am the Stratics Central Content Director for Stratics. On Stratics I am known as "Teresk".

I am in the final stages of setting up a portal site for Second Life on Stratics and I'm looking for staff to help manage the site. I am in need of news reporters, content editors, forum moderators, etc. Any interest?

To see what Stratics is all about, use the link below. But, you won't see the SL portal yet because I need you to begin populating it with content and news articles. Once we have something for the public to view, then we (by we, I mean you and I) can go the next step. So, if you have an interest in joining the Stratics Staff and assisting with the SL site development, please email me at teresk@stratics.com to get any questions answered.

The first question I usually hear is "How much does it pay?". All of our staff are volunteers and therefore, there is no true cash-in-hand monetary value. But, as a part of our Stratics staff, the benefits are being involved with a darn good group of people all dedicated to making their sites the best they can be. Kinda like what you see here with the "Lindens" staff.

If you would like to get involved, I have an application that will get most of my questions about you taken care of so I can get you active. At some point, you will need to register in our public and staff forums to become productive. But that doesn't have to happen until you are ready to begin. The link to the application is at the bottom of this post. The only requirements are that you can spell, use proper grammar and that you are at least 18 years old.

Just a small bit about Stratics... For a new game that we cover, I create a portal as mentioned above, along with forums for user communication. Later, if the portal becomes really popular, I create a "Main Site" for it. Using the link below, you will see Stratics Central, which is the "hub" of Stratics. All of the currently active portals are listed on that page as links (in yellow) near the top. All of the Main sites are reachable by hovering over the "Stratics Network" at the extreme top of the page. You will notice that, in total, we cover several of the more populat games on the market today.

Here's the link to the main site: www.stratics.com.

And for the application: www.stratics.com/content/staff/application.php?hwad=sl.

Excellent! And long overdue for Stratics, I think. I look forward to posting there once you get forums up and running.

I fear you may find a rather cold reception from some corners, as Stratics has a bit of an ill reputation preceeding it from some (but not all) ex-members of the TSO community. (As a new voulenteer moderator on these forums, I often point to them as examples of how not to manage a forum.)

Regardless, good luck with the new site.

Then again, the above opinion isn't shared by all of us who came here from TSO and Stratics.

Hey, it's moo. I'm an old reporter from like 2001 to 2003 on UO - Napa Valley, SWG and TSO Stratics. It's great to see that you guys are doing something for Second Life!

Ah, I was a 3 year member for swg.stratics.com until I quit playing SWG. Great site.

You must be thinking of a different Stratics, because the one I have been posting on for the last two years is a professional run and well respected site for many online games. These forums could learn a lot from Stratics, such as an actual working moderation system, staffed by volunteers from the game's playerbase.

The article you quote is unbalanced and incomplete, as are most pages that sensationalised Uri's episode in TSO - being too stupid to follow some simple rules will get your posts moderated, regardless of who you are. Remember that the 'claims' which were made remain to this day unproven.

If you are truly denigrating Stratics from your post as a 'resmod' here, then I would suggest you resign immediately, as you are not showing imparitability - one of the most important qualities of moderating any forum.

Greetings once again!

First of all, I apologize to the Admins and Mods for initially mis-posting this thread. I wasn't quite sure where it would be appropriate and decided if I was wrong, someone would set me straight. :)

To Coco: Thank you for the kind words.

To Elle and others that have investigated her post: Please don't judge all of Stratics by decisions made in the TSO site/forums. That site is very unique to Stratics given that Stratics is the Official Forums for TSO. The TSO audience is very different from any other site we cover and, as such, must be managed differently as well.

Hi moo: I remember you! :)

To Melonie: Thanks for your interest. And yes, please let your friend know what we're up to.

To nimrod: Hi to you too! We have just appointed a new Managing Editor to the SWG site. Her name is RainStar and she has been a veteran of Starsider since the first day of launch. She's in the beginning stages of renovating the site. If you played on Starsider, perhaps you know her. She's quite popular there.

And finally, to Lewis: Thank you very much for your post. I appreciate your words and your support. My entire psyche is dedicated to Stratics and to continue to develop it to be the best it can be.

With all of the above said, I want you all to know that I've received eight applications in total so far covering all of the areas I'm looking for. I have chosen one of those to be the Portal Manager. He will soon receive all of the applications and will be contacting each and every one of you. But, don't let that stop anyone from applying. We will need more people interested in working on this site. I think it'll move from a portal site to a full blown Stratics Main Site very, very soon. :)

*bows to Teresk*

I was a member of Stratics when participating in the Adellion project. Gosh that seems a lifetime ago. It was very well operated then so I'll look forward to using the new SL portal; might even find something else to do.

How much time is involved if one volunteers to maintain a content area?

Oh and don't worry about your thread being moved. It's an arbitrary game that our mods play.

It's not completely unique, as Stratics is also the Official Forum manager for UO as well.

I think the problems the TSO Stratics forums suffered (at least those I saw in the early days) stemmed from a) the unique audience and b) the lawless nature of the EA forums that proceeded them. Both are problems that the coming SL Stratics will have as well.

One solution is not to hand over the reins to SL moderators - at least not in the beginning. Bring over some experienced and respected moderators and volunteer coordinators from other games, then chose the moderators from those that emerge as forum leaders. Handing over the reins, right out of the gate, to a totally unknown quantity from SL is a mistake and will only leave a bad taste in the mouths of SL citizens. (I would cite CrazyJoe from the UO forums as a good example to give the future SL moderators/coordinators.)

That's why the post was made here, for interested players to apply. Volunteers. Not like the 'resmod' farce here where people are told they're doing a job, then given little to no training before being left to get on and do it as best they can.

I think the forums will be more to Stratics normal standards, rather than the mess there is here. Should be a pleasure to participate in.
