AA Voice Meeting

RL meetings are best of course, but SL meetings are an alternative if you can't for whatever reason attend in RL.

If you prefer only to text chat (no explanation needed), you still will need speakers/sound to listen in, as this is a Voice Meeting.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 26, 2007
12pm (noon) Secondlife Time (PDT)
Nerdagara Falls 206,143,44 (In the Church)

(Thanks to Sarah Nerd for providing at no charge a free location for our meetings.)

Also looking for a speaker for a future meeting

Feedback, comments suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Alan Bamboo

Another cool example of how SL is a true community and a worthwhile platform.

GL with your project and your members.

All wonderful stuff. A concern I have, though, is you may want to look at tradition #7 regarding each group being self supporting. Despite Sarah's very generous offer, AA has a tradition of turning down such offers.

As a friend of Bill's, I speak from a little experience here. Is not the offer of land use somewhat akin to the nominal RL rent charged by churches and KofC halls and hospitals and all of the other RL venues?

Perhaps if the group offered Sarah some nominal rent for use of the land, tradition #7 would be properly respected.

When I started the idea for an AA voice meeting group, “I sought out” by looking for a well known long standing name in SL and Sarah was the first one “I asked”.

Because this is a virtual world, I wanted to keep the “costs at zero and accept no donations”.

Thanks for the feedback.
I did overlook the 7th tradition of AA and it will, and must always, be kept.

In my limited knowledge of AA (I don't drink), I attended a meeting, so I could better understand, my then, partners perspective, as she was a victim of being in a AA abusers, relationship.

The local branch of the AA had 'CoDependants Meetings' which I found most enlightening. It was most useful as is was founded not solely on Alcohol, but any hibitual disease such as drugs, gambling, racisism, violence etc etc. It gave a better understanding to both victims (those surrounding the 'abuser' suffering the habitual disease), and the sufferer of the disease itself in whatever form.

Is your group going to extend to encompass this area? I only ask, as I believe it would be as worthwhile within SL, as in RL for some people.

No it will not extend into a Co-dependancy meeting.
