I'm pleased to announce the release of the Pirandello Second Life Map Viewer Dashboard Widget.
This mini-application for Mac OS X keeps the main grid map in your Dashboard to refer to it at any time. You can navigate around the map with the panning arrows or by double-clicking on locations, or enter a sim name and coordinates directly. View the map at different levels of zoom. And when you've located someplace you want to visit, you can press the teleport button and open the location in your Second Life client.
The widget is free and open source, though I appreciate donations if you're inclined to give them.
Requires Mac OS X 10.4.3 to run.

I'm glad you like it! I had to come back for some slight blurbling.
I submitted the widget to Apple's Dashboard widget download area, for some wider exposure. That was the 10th at about 3pm PDT; by the evening it was in their front-page list of Staff Favorites, which appear below the index. I was hugely flattered that they would like my little project that much, to pick it over the other widgets submitted that day. But. If you go to http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/ as of 12:20am PDT, 12 April, Second Life Map Widget is now the _featured_ widget, and appears above the index and listings; indeed, it's the first thing below the headlines. I'm just blown away. Thank you, everyone who's downloaded and tried it; let me know what kinds of enhancements you'd like to see. |

Which means that doing a slick widget like that will require a bit of work. I was just thinking about making a little extension for firefox that would show the world map and chart your friends (that you can map) and which are online. _____________________
