Don't RP at Midian City, as it is very homophobic, and i got ALOT of shit there, when i complained to the "manager" i was "ejected" and can't TP there any more. and i've been getting prank IM's with homophobic abuse in, i have reported it to LL, but nothing.
I have created an ALT character and not paid for an "additional basic account". IF LL delete or message me about that issue, before the homophobia issue then its going straight to BBC news, as i don't know what else 2 do and there allways on the hunt for issues like this. it might get them to set there priorities right.

Midian City Is Grieferphobic, Not Homophobic
09-21-2007 22:57
As a first life member of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) whose activism and involvement goes far beyond merely carrying a card around with me, I want to say that this accusation made against us is absolutely baseless and outright sad.
Midian City is not, nor ever has been homophobic. Harassment of any kind is NEVER tolerated in Midian City. Midian City is filled with and welcomes all sorts of orientations: straight, bi, gay, lesbian, etc. In fact, I have personally banned people in the past who have attempted to bring real life hate groups there and try to call it “roleplay”. Flat out ... it is not tolerated. Neither is griefing us with missiles and signs, as has been done by our accuser.
To use such a claim against us to justify one's griefing against a community welcoming of all, does a great disservice to those of us who take a stand and fight for civil liberties in both Second Life and in First Life.

From: JayDee Unknown BBC.....lol. "People were mean to me in a virtual world, I can mute anyone I want and completely ignore them and can freely teleport out of the area or simply log off, but you know.... they were mean to me in this one place........" ...lol. Threatening a sim owner with a media exposé just loses you the thread huh? When i worked on a tech. support team I knew the customer was feeling powerless and frustrated when they threatened us with BBC Watchdog or a journalist relative who just happened to work at the News of the World. Unlike my colleagues, I tried to be sympathetic because I didn't want customers committing suicide over malfunctioning smartphones. There are far more important things to be taking your life over. ..which is all besides the point. There's actually a whole lot of homophobia in Second Life and it seems hideously unfair to single Midian out when it was more about a few personalities than sim policy, and considering you can get homophobia any time of day at a Linden owned Welcome Area without ever visiting a role-playing sim. For the record, I've visited Midian many times. My male avatar has eyeliner dripping down his face. I'm gay and although I don't shout it from the rooftops, I don't hide it either. I've never experienced homophobia in that sim. I could tell you a few stories about Ahern though.

I think with people getting blown up all over the world the BBC has more pressing things to worry about Sparky.

What actually does the word mean though?
"Phobia" is a fear.
"Homo" is actually 'mankind'.
Has nothing to do with sexuality, it's a fear of people, if you actually expand the word literally.
Correctly speaking, it would be "homosexualphobia" which doesn't really flow properly.
Why would someone with a fear of people choose to log into a place full of them?

Hmmmm interesting.
When I read the word homophobia, I read:
Homo-- as in homogeneous, meaning the same or similar in nature (being in the state of homogeneity)
Phobia--as fear of
So maybe Homophobia means Fear of the same?
But what do I know? I am just an illiterate school girl drop out!

It's a clipping compound. It's a combination of a clipping (homosexuality shortened to homo) and phobia. Seriously. It's a perfectly sound process of word formation.

By that logic, if a lady is described as topless, she's not just missing her bra but the whole top half of her body. Neologize all you want. Homophobia has a single unequivocal definition in every English dictionary (bar a few which must save us from ourselves) on the planet: an unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality.

If it was real world were he got physically beating because he couldn't leave then that is a different story. Even verbally abused in RL isn't news worthy. Hell if the BBC did say anything the place would just get MORE traffic. lol

Broccoli This of course is confusing the Greek with Latin. In Latin Homo is "Man" In Greek Homo is "Same" The word Homosexual means to want sex with the "Same Sex" As opposed to Heterosexual to want sex with the "Diferent Sex" Phobic is also Greek. Homophobic is "fear of the same" sex basically. Though of course in practice its not always fear as much as fear of their own repressed homosexual desires. And also a fear that not everyone is straight and thats somehow not wrong.

LOL Except the logic of Broccoli's Post is fundamentally flawed becuase the Phobia (like most phobias) uses the Greek .. Not the Latin. (see my other post) And of course both Homosexual and Homophobic have established definitions now.
