I don't think the differences are substantial. You initiate on the web, I initiate in-world. We both make sure the users are connected to valid SL Avatars.

Foolish Frost's sldrama.com forum also uses inworld kiosks to register with verified avatar identity.

It's possible that requiring verified avatar identity is not actually going to work to a forum's advantage because so many people want to use the forums to play forum games.

If my advantage includes: drama for the sake of drama, rampant trolling, and metatrolling, I'd rather stay disadvantaged. :)

It might be for the best that I have no knowledge of that site. I guess I have to take a look at it now just to inform myself. Maybe I'll be lucky and forget about it before I get around to it.

I don't think that is what Foolish is really looking for. The name was born of a specific set of conditions in the forums here, I believe, and he has already paid for the domain name.

There's already an SL related forum for drama, trolling, hatefulness, childish spitefulness, and generally behaving in an emotionally disturbed manner. Perhaps one will be enough.

I'm registering for your forum now.

There's a problem for these new forums, similar to the problem that occurs when a new method of reproducing media is introduced. No one wants the new media player until there is stuff to watch or listen to available; no one wants to make stuff to watch or listen to in the new format until a lot of people have the players. Likewise, no one wants to post in an empty forum with no one to read or respond; no one wants to read forums with no posts and no one to read any responses one makes. How to solve this problem I don't know. This should get alleviated some when the discussion forums and group forums here close; those who want to do SL forum-ing will have to find somewhere.

------ addendum --------

I attempted to register and received this error message:
From: someone
yaslf.com registration kisok whispers: There was a problem. Server said: <div class="Error">username is 1 characters too long.</div>

-- addendum 2 ---

Although not in-world, Kristian responded quite promptly when I IMed him about the problem and is working on it at the moment.

SuezanneC's problem should be fixed and yaslf.com would like to say we welcome all SL avatars, regardless of name length. We've adjusted the code to allow longer names. :)

It was fixed hours ago and worked just fine.

His forum is a bit different in function that the vBulletin-like ones, worth taking a look at just to see a different sort of message board.

Maybe one solution would be for the one creating the forum to get the ball rolling in their own forum by posting some topics interesting enough to generate responses. That might help. It will be interesting to see what will happen.
