"The Closing of An Open Society" http://secondthoughts.typepad.com/o Before June 2005, all telehub sims placed on the auction were placed there by LL at far higher opening bids than other regular sims -- thus LL knowingly placed a higher value on telehub land and represented it as higher value historically. o Contrary to popular belief, it's not mall barons like Anshe Chung who own many of the malls in SL today; it's mom-and-pop store owners and smaller entrepreneurs -- often who put considerable money and time into building their own individual stores at telehubs, not malls -- these are the people who are most being killed by LL's decision to pull telehubs. o Content-creators who had democratic access to the public at telehubs are hurt as much as "mall barons" or store owners -- the sales they got from their telehub location more than covered their telehub rents but they will have difficulty restoring their traffic. o This new middle class of SL who bought and built stores at telehubs should demand tier-free status for this telehub land for some specified period as compensation for this loss, which harms not only them but the entire SL economy; otherwise LL merely rewards the oligarchs once again in their unjust economy.

I apologize up front if I am incorrect, but I think the matter of telehub land is being taken far too seriously. Players who have high quality items for sale will still be able to sell their creations at the telehub or anywhere else. I fail to see how their business will necessarily suffer.
As far as paying too much for land, I suppose that's a risk inherent in investing in land in the first place.
I just don't see how this will have a long-term negative affect on anyone, unless they want it to.

Likewise, Mina - I feel like everyone is completely underestimating the effect on SL this change will have. For the good of SL, I hope you're right & I'm wrong
