We've just launched a site which allows you to do searches for mainland parcels by price and area range, sim name, time on sale, pg/mature, continent and keywords in name/description. It links into the SL mapping api to show other plots in the same sim with statistics on the sim. Check it out at http://www.sllandlist.com.

Woah buddy...

Nice work.

I use two computers, and I couldn't find a way to copy a secondlife:// url to paste into the the computer that SL is running on. Maybe you could add a button for that?

Shame this the don't fix up and open up the mozilla browser so we could use sites like this without leaving SL.

One feature this has that I have mentioned in Feature Suggestions is both a max and min area field. Much more efficient. I, for instance, find 4096 to be the minimum size of interest and the maximum size I want to pay tier for.

This site is pretty interesting.

I sure wish one could shop for private estate parcels like this, in a filterable, sortable list, like you'd expect to be able to do in a virtual world in the 21st century, where not only the data describing the land is digitial and electronic, the land itself is digital and electronic.

The folks reading the searchbot thread and the sl map thread should take a look at the site this thread mentions.

This website is very very awesome. Even as it stands right now it's fantastic. Here are some possible improvements though.

The website seems to be some crazy flash-like thing so it's not scrapable. Maybe you could add an RSS feed?

Sometimes I find the list is not sorted by L$/m2 and I have to click on the thingy to re-sort.

Put a teleport to parcel link on the search page so I don't have to click through your very awesome sim stats page.

Also, I have a thriving mainland rental business, I'm wondering how I can get in on your future plan to list rentals. It seems to me like comparing rentals programmatically is going to be quite a challenge unless you develop an API that we all register to and submit our details.

Excellent site, better and quicker that searching ingame. I assume as I couldn't see the land on a map, that I would have to be in game?

It's hard to expect to have a wish list for a freebie service such as this, but would it be possible to see how many prims are supported, or use that as part of the filter?

Thanks for the positive response people, its very encouraging.

AWM you should be able to see a map without being in SL, you may well be using Internet Explorer 7 which the mapping system doesn't work with simply because when Microsoft brought out IE7 the mapping API that Linden Labs provide doesnt work with it and they haven't fixed it yet. The site has a link on it which will let you vote on the bug reporting system to have LL prioritise fixing this. I may at some point see if I can come up with a workaround. In the meantime, try using IE6 (the old version) or Firefox if you can.

Elanthius thanks I think I will make L$/m2 the default sort, its always the one I use too. I think an RSS feed would swamp you with new plots but at some point I'd like to set up an alert system where you put in a specification for a plot you want and you get an IM when one comes on the market. It won't be like a landbot though because it will probably take an hour or two for you to get the alert.

I'll put definitely put a direct link for teleporting - currently I think you won't be able to get a teleport link if you use IE7. Suezanne I will think of a way of making the secondlife:// link available to copy.

My intention is to add a free rental/private island plot listing system. I think this is a major major lack in SL as it stands because the inworld search fails to list initial cost / rental cost. I don't think there's any way to do this automatically though, people will have to input their plot info. However I do have an idea to provide an inworld scripted rental box which as well as managing renter payments like such boxes do, will allow you to submit rental info in-world, and which will delist rental plots when someone comes along and rents them (and relist them if the rental isn't paid).

Truly outstanding, finally a website outside secondlife.com and slexchange.com that has a permanent link in my "Favorites".

Nice! Question -- how often is it updated and how is it updated?

Hi if you're having problems with the site on IE6 feel free to IM me inworld Ken (I'm Christian Colville).

The site's currently updated every 2 hours Ina. I use the somewhat infamous libsecondlife software to talk direct to the search system. Its every 2 hours because my code has to pull the search list then query the SL servers to find out extra info about the parcels for sale, its quite a long process. I think I'll be able to get that down to every hour in the near future.

I'm conscious that I don't want to be stressing the search servers. I sent Linden Labs an email about what I was doing asking if they would like to impose any limit on me as to how often I queried their servers but got nothing back. I think if I only use one alt AV to run queries in the end this system will remove some load from the servers once a lot of people start using it instead of the inworld search.

I don't want this site to wind up being the equivalent of a public online landbot, something that people use to get the jump on others in buying cheap land. What I want it to do is let people find land that fits their needs faster. So getting the scan frequency much below half an hour is not a priority for me.

Very cool indeed! Can't wait to see how this evolves, but it shows some pretty impressive potential already :)

I have been wishing for a long time that someone would give us the ability to search for land for sale in specific sims - it's a pain to wait for the map to update or to root through tons of FLAT GREEN listings to try to find land in a specific location. Of course now that I've tiered down, someone creates it! :)

I wish I had of discovered this site a few days ago. The in-world land search is terrible.

As a baby, I would like to have the option of negative text-string queries such as "furnished" or "flat green".

Is it possible to parse the traffic counter? Useful for buyers looking for commerce, or alternative lifestyles.

Nice to see someone doing something with libsl and not getting hammered for it.
Congratulations on getting through that minefield :p

Just an update - I used your site and found the perfect little piece of old continent island waterfront on one of the Linden protected channels, at a fantastic price for the area. And it fits in my lower tier level! I never would have found it without this site. Thank you!!!

I am also very glad to see someone doing something noncontroversial and beneficial to the community with libsl.

Great story Annabelle I'm really glad the site helped you. That's exactly the purpose of it, helping people find land for specific purposes easily.

It's really great to see such positive comments. Thought *someone* would find something wrong with it.

I have the dwell or traffic figure in the database right now Cutflower so I'll put that on sometime soon. I find it a little misleading personally as a popular piece of land for sale can generate a lot of traffic just from people wanting to buy it. Also it shouldn't be too hard to do excluding-word searches.

So far I'm publicising this site though SLExchange banners, a few cheap 512 plots in busy sale areas I've put signs on, this forum and Google adwords (which is really way too expensive). I've also submitted it to the Linden residents site list but it seems to be a little uh lagged at the moment. Anyone with other ideas as to how to publicise it would be much appreciated, there are a lot of people who could benefit from this site who don't know about it. Don't say rotating cubes in the sky...

I'd like a similar site for private estate land sales and rentals, with the covenant displayable, with added fields supplied by the sellers or renters for payment method, down payment, amount of rent, rental period, and a "block seller" field the user could set, if they have some reason to want to not see offerings from a particular seller, such as providing information that turned out to be false.

Well, with the Landbots running amok around the grid, and in-game searches being unstable lately, how could someone find fault with a tool that a) doesn't update immediately and contribute to people losing land over silly mistakes, and b) includes land search functions that users have been clamoring for LL to implement for ages?

Actually, if this thread was over in Resident Answers, I'm sure plenty of people would find something wrong with it!

Since this is a service that people don't have to pay to use, you might see about taking a news angle with it in addition to advertising the site through the usual channels. Maybe the guy who does New World Notes would want to do an article on it: http://nwn.blogs.com/. It's linked to the SL home page so I read it, probably lots of people do. Or maybe Second Life Insider or one of the other sites would be interested.
