Hello SL'ers,
I have spent hours trying to figure out how to 'exist' in Second Life. As I was signing up, I was asked to choose a default avatar. Then after signing up and logging back in, I clicked on everything in sight, but can't find my default avatar to start things off. Please help!

hi jade well if u r new to sl and you are logged back in and unless u have changed, I assume u are already in your default shape or I am missing something here? You need to go shopping and check out all basic free stuff available, skins, hair, clothes and practice and play with it. If you want to find me in-world i can help u and maybe drop some stuff on you ........unless of course u r female, but then I am sure other forum gal members here can help u with that. We all had to learn, as sl is very steep learning curve, but don't worry, it's all part of the rich experience we do daily...gee 6 months on and i still go out with one boot on and one off.

Do you mean you want to go back to the first avatar you chose when you set up your account? You can find those avatars and their outfits in your Inventory, in the Library.
After you go through the new user orientation, you should be in one of the Orientation Islands when you log in again. You can go through the orientation hints again there, if you are having trouble altering your appearance or moving around.
You "wear" an avatar (skin, shape) like you wear an outfit (right click, choose wear). You can then choose "edit appearance" to play around with the shape and change your clothes and create simple new ones.
You will probably want to customize your avatar skin, shape, clothes and hair, to make yourself more unique. Stop by places like NCI, the Gnubie Store and Free Dove to pick up free clothes, skins, hairs and shoes (most people wear prim hair instead of the texture system hair, unless its very short).
Also check our Yadni's Junkyard for even more free stuff to get you started.

Thanks to all for your repies, but I still need help! The site can be very frustrating Jade, esp when you're new. I am not good with the technical issues you may be experiencing. But you might want to check your pc has the right specs to run SL Otherwise persevere with it, it gets less frustrating.
