September 2006 has been the highest traffic month in the history of SLUniverse/Snapzilla, with nearly 300,000 visitors for them month with an average of 9,836 visitors a day. Also in September, Snapzilla crossed the 100,000 image mark and the 7 million viewed mark. There has never been a better time to advertise on the SLUniverse site. The site has a captive audience interested in Second Life, and all the advertising is SL related. Pricing starts at $250L for event announcements, and there are packages available to fit a variety of budgets and advertising needs. Advertising is available for free for charity events. Ad design services also available. The site features the popular browseable flash ads, which allow you to include a series of images that can be browsed through in the ad, either automatically or like a vending machine. No flash experience needed - you supply the images, and we set up the ad as part of the package, starting at $2500L for medium display rotation with 10 images for 2 weeks. An example can be seen at http://www.sluniverse.com/advertising/browseable.htm. For more information, see http://www.sluads.com or click the Advertising link at the top of the http://www.sluniverse.com site. If you have any questions, please contact advertising@sluniverse.com.

Curious to know, are those #'s counting only the people that actually visit the site, or do they count everyone that is using snapzilla... I am wondering this because if you look at your forum they count EVERYONE, even if they never visited and never registered on the forums... so that would mean that many people use snapzilla but may never see the ad or look at the webiste or forums... or if they do it is not very often.... Can you please explain how your #'s are calculated?
I'd like to add that this is a very important question because if the ads rotate, and IF these people are not frequent visitors... they may never see your ad...

I'd like to add that this is a very important question because if the ads rotate, and IF these people are not frequent visitors... they may never see your ad... Sensual, To be counted in the monthly visitor numbers, you would have to actually go to the site. It has nothing to do with the number of registered users in the forums or registered Snapzilla users. The numbers are calculated from the web server logs. Every page request is logged, and reports are generated from those logs. I included the report summary below. The numbers are actually off by a day - I did not include Sept 30th in the report, I ran it on Friday the 29th. The numbers are broken down in several ways - hits, which is a fairly meaningless number (if a page has 10 images on it and one user requests the page, it is 11 hits). SLU overall had 12 million hits in September (420,000 per day) - given that it is an image heavy site, this is not surprising. The numbers are also broken down by page views - these are the number of times individual pages on the site have been requested. In September, SLU had 6 million page views (200,000 per day). By comparison, SLU had 2 million page views in September of 2005. Finally, the numbers are broken down by visitors (which is the 300k number I am using)- a visitor is someone who comes to the site and requests one or more pages in an active session. If you come to the site and look at 1 page or 100 pages in a day, you are counted as a visitor. Additionally, it is broken down by unique visitor IP addresses. SLU overall had 296,600 visitors (9800 per day). Of those visitors overall, there were 180,881 unique IP addresses. Again, not surprising - the site does have significant repeat visitors. There is also one more number - the traffic bandwidth. That is the total overall in file size that has been transferred in the month. For the month of September, SLU served up 117 gb of data - 3 gb per day. A little over a year ago, when SLU moved from a shared host to dedicated hosting, it was serving up a little over 30 gb of data per month - in under a year, that has gone up 400%. The site had 30,000 images at that time - it now has over 100,000. I also quoted two other numbers which I will explain. The 100,000 image mark is easy to understand - it is just a running count of the total number of images people have sent to Snapzilla. The 7 million viewed number is calculated when someone moves the mouse over the magnifying glass to look at an image, or drills into the picture detail page of an image, so it does track actual viewings. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

In case you wanted additional breakdown of the numbers, here you go. This also reminded me that the ad server software can target ads to users in specific countries, if desired.

That's some major bandwidth. You are very generous to supply that to the community. Thanks Cristiano
