Hi everyone.

We reviewed several "Freebie" stores last week on our website as well as an article on the typical Freebie shop experience.

Which place gets our top pick, and which ones should you avoid?

See for yourself!

Hi Lizard. I just tried that URL and just got a "server not found" message. Hmmm.

Wow! Your reporter completely missed most of the places I would recommend: Sarah Nerd's Freebie Paradise, the GNUbie store, Enkythings (though Enkythings is technically a L$1 store, it does have some free stuff - and definitely not the same old same old), Wilted Rose's freebie section (can't remember the name right now, but it's right outside the main store), NCI, Yadni's...

Heh. Maybe I should write you an article...

...and the one place that got highest ratings in that "article" is basically just a small room with two notecard givers that give you notecards with landmarks to two separate corners of the same _shop_...
sorry, but a "freebie place" is a bit more than just the "free gifts" corner of a shop.

especially when the place also has the very same "survey terminals" that you _warn_ about in another article on your website.

Its a decent article but it doesn't mention Freebie Dungeon which offers Cryonica's Avatars In A Box...a complete look with several skins and shapes that enabled me to experiment with skins and shapes. There are lots of these boxes set out on a slope and I found them great for discovering how to change and improve your avatar appearance. I haven't found these anywhere else.

Vienna Freebies isn't mentioned either...a large place with lots of decent freebies or inexpensive items.

I loved exploring these two as a newbie.

My thoughts exactly....to my mind Free Dove deserves more than three stars as it offers quality free samples by top creators like DarkSkye Eyes and Panache plus info on deboxing and other vital stuff for newbies. Completely missing out YadNi's, NCI, GNUbie and Wilted Rose's Freebie Jeebies! Great places to find little gems if you're skint.

Sheesh.

Ah yes poor free dove...well at the end of 12 hours of straight work and nothing would gosh darned rez in that place and stuff it kind of got on my nerves a little bit. As I said in the review I knew I was feeling a bit burnt out so I sort of tried to let a customer speak for the place. I would gladly consider adding an additional review for that store because I know I was getting a little cranky when I did mine. I did find the place a little bit out of date though and maybe it was the fact that pictures werent rezzing or maybe it was over crowded but i was just not seeing at a glance anything i wanted to buy like in other places. The out-datedness bothered me a bit. The still have an old "click me if your stuck in an animation" thing which hasnt been necassary for ages. The tips on unpacking boxes dont apply to too many stores anymore as a lot have switched to selling the contents of the objects so noobs dont litter stores anymore with opened purchases. Meh - Free Dove just didnt do it for me. But then thats what the reviews are for. To give an honest human opinion. I will say this however they were the only one i reviewed that day that was honestly just giving to the community and asking for nothing in return, which was very refreshing.

Take Care

Hey Lance that was Noob Island I guess you were talking about. Its not just the freebie corner of a shop, its a very very large island with a bunch of freebies and free stuff for noobs. I did see they had survey machines as well but it was not obnoxious and they claimed that the proceeds from these went to their money trees. All of which were reasons why I said the place was still somewhat commercial but a real good place to get some good freebies. If you have a better one please submit it. Its far better to get a lot of people making reviews rather than just one person making reviews and a lot of people saying how if only it had been done better.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hottie, you completely missed out some of the really great freebie places as mentioned earlier
in this thread.

If you visited www.mermaiddiaries.com it gives a full useful introduction to some of them.

Noob Island is owned and run by Tracey Sassoon who also owns the Alady skin and shape shop.

Alady has a big section upstairs devoted to freebie avatar appearance goods for feminine avatars.
Another favourite of mine as a noob. :)

I really liked the website, I think its a great concept, However I would like to see reviews on stores & business that may not be so big in secondlife, There are literally hundreds of reviews on majority of the big stores but not so much the smaller ones.

I know I could send in reviews myself but mine are biased because theres quite alot of stores I love that never seem to get a mention

Kind Regards
Nat

This would probably be a second article rather than an add-on to what you've done, but it might be helpful to have a list of stores that are generous with group gifts.

Designing Nicky Ree, PixelDolls, Ivalde, ETD, and I'm sure tons of others have a wall, or vendors with their past group gifts(the Ivalde and ETD are 1L, but the others are completely free).

Just from those three, a girl(such a hard thing to find good men's freebs)can have a top quality, workable wardrobe to start out with.
