The Elite (E-paper) Need Help

I just ran into Second Life a mere half week ago, trying to write a small summary for a local paper, and to make a long story short: I got hooked.

I've purchased a domain, and registered through squarespace, (check out: www.SLElite.com), and I hope I can manage to build a reputable E-paper for anyone to see...the trouble is, I've only spent a couple days, (numerous hours though) in the virtual world, and that limits my expertise....

I need 3 people, to help write, edit, and "pretty up" (post photos)...

These folks, would have 2nd tier powers, editing etc, that road hasn't yet been tested...and serve as co-editors/co-founders of the paper.

Candidate's Should Be:

-open
-willing to suggest new ideas/work with others
-mature
-fluent in English, have good grasp of grammar/spelling (SpellCheck is not All-Knowing)

Tech savvy folk would be appreciated, and writers! Writers! Oh, lord do I need writers!

So far, the site is set up with "Ed's Desk" (The editorial/News Topics) as the hompage, with links to helpful sites, a guestbook, discussion forum, classifieds and RSS feeds.

Again hope to see some volunteers, and you can reach me at:

E-Paper Needs Help?

Yoda, it's unclear from your post what it is that your site plans to do -- or what your unpaid writers and editors will be working on.

Please note that if you plan to review spaces on Second Life, there are already several sites doing the same thing. I review for one of them, secondseeker.com, which reviews sites that are not sex- or gambling-related; but I know of others as well. What you really need if you want to do reviews is a niche, to find something that nobody else is doing already. As you pointed out, you're new to SL, and you may wish to get a bit more experience and see what's out there before starting a website of your own.

Perhaps, also, before you try and engage people, it would be good for you to announce your mission statement or plan. That might prove to be more effective.

Just a few suggestions.

Best wishes,

You could also offer your services to existing SL news sites, rather than going to all the expense and trouble of setting up your own from nothing - as starting anything when there is already established competition is hard work.

Finding volunteers is difficult. Lots of people want to offer their time and services when they're being paid for it, but there are few of us who will do things for "the common good" without being rewarded except for knowing that we're doing something positive.

But definitely hang on to that URL... pay it a few years in advance.

Take some time to find your footing in SL.. find something that needs reporting on... something that needs your abilities to organize people.

And then, make SLElite.com into something that fills your favourite need.

My intent really was at first to be a place where I could jot down my notes (a blog) for my editorial, but really, if I was going to go that far I decided to buy a space and turn it into a full-fledged "she-bang"....

Don't look at it as a grand design...even I understand with my little earned experience in the program/server/virtual world...(look I don't even know what to call it yet!) that I can't really find a single plan and go after it...per say.

However, the space has been purchased, and I must say, as soon as I hit the purchase button I reached for the cancel (it was too late)...

Anyway, if there is any goal, its' to serve as a more cozy outlet for news, I really don't want to cater to the classifieds if I don't have to, if I can rant and maybe grab headlines from exterior reviews (aka, radio, news etc) and......

Look, I'm desparate for coffee right now, and the e-paper is going to be made for people who drink coffee 24/7...(college kids/writers)....

Thank you, and now I must seek out the closest coffee house before I collapse.

cant agree more with all the feedback... buying a domain is easy, finding on's purpose in SL and a niche for a publication is not. I know from experience, my baby (theKonstrukt) is on its 6th edition.
Take your time, explore and if you still want to do it, look for something no one has done yet. Difficult, but feasible.
And... sure, spellcheckscant replace a human brain... shouldnt it be "the Elite (e-paper) needS help"?
lol
good luck with your project

Mei Hian has committed social suicide. May Yoda rest in peace.
