Hello all - thought I'd announce the latest offering at slquery.com. You can now browse the site from within the web tab via anyone's mini profile.

The mini profiles contain the following information:
  1. Lists of all the items you've posted
  2. Lists of all blogs posted you've posted
  3. Lists of all news posted you've posted (will be open to all soon)
  4. Popular tags for all listings, this let's you easily browse through the site using the social tags people have placed on their items, blogs, and news entries. The tags aren't restricted to the user's profile and let you browse through all tagged entries.
  5. Each profile has the text you place in your profile section along with an image you've listed.

I'm also adding events soon...

If you are registered on the site, simply put the following url in your web tab:

http://www.slquery.com/<yourname>/profile where <yourname> is your registered username without spaces.

For example, my profile can be viewed at http://www.slquery.com/damektretiak/profile.

You can also browse directly to the stie at http://www.slquery.com from within the webtab for quick instructions on how to use the new feature. The site will recognize that you are browsing from the SL web tab.

Folks might want to give this a try!

Supposing that one wanted to use this to sell cottages, how would a cottage maker go about getting their cottage shop listed in the popular tags?

I'm thinking that webtab sites might want to include Back buttons at both top and bottom of the page for easy navigation, since the webtab viewer doesn't have Back capability.

They could list their entry directly onto the website itself. The name and description are fully searchable on the site itself. But for tags, I'd suggest forsale, or cottage_forsale. The tags will take underscores, but no spaces. This would give them a relevant tab on the web tab anyway.

See a feature story on SLQuery in SL Business Magazine
12-06-2006 07:18
Hey Damek, this invention of yours is getting bigger and better by the day.
This is probably not the appropriate place to plug a story about SLQuery, but for those of you reading Damek's post who would like to read about SLQuery in SL Business Magazine, download the December issue (its a .pdf) at www.slbusinessmag.com, or pick up an in-world copy at the SL Business headquarters in Egremont (35,235,29)

Thanks Ute! I appreciate the vote of confidence. :-)

I'll have some new features out at the end of the week along with a new way to search without the HUD next week. Stay tuned...

I'm putting this in the my SLtabs to see how it works.

How nice it would be to have competing search engines - maybe someone will implement a boolean logic search system - then we might be able to find the things we want!

SLtabs is Cristiano Midnight's method for making nice tabbed displays for having multiple urls easily accessible in your webtab.

I wonder when the Linden staff will figure out they should start making help info to fit in the webtab viewer, and a webtab page for gridstatus and the latest couple of Linden blog posts, or some other useful info.

The advanced search page here at SLquery looks nice, it let's you pick categories like clothing or sound from a list, and has "all these terms, at least one of these terms, without these terms" capabilities, and various other ways to control your search, none of which the Linden provided search system has (when it's working).

Too bad we don't have access to the F1 browser - it has plenty of functionality as it is to provide a great deal of usefulness to SL residents.

Best of luck with your project, I hope lots of people sign up for slquery!

Hi SuzanneC - I apologize that I didn't see your post the other day.

Thanks for the words. :-)

There will be an update to the web tabs service later this week, which will include the much needed navigational buttons that were mentioned.

Stay tuned more more to come...

Update to SLQuery.com Web Tabs
12-11-2006 14:59
Hello all -

I made another update to the SLQuery.com mini profiles this afternoon.
  1. Navigation buttons have been added: forward, back, home, and refresh.
  2. Clicking on an image will now show a resized image that generally fits within the confines of the web tab browser
  3. Clicking on on an item to view the additional information it might have also fits within the confines of the web tab browser

Enjoy!

Visit http://www.slquery.com for details on the web tab.
