The libsecondlife project is going through changes over the next few weeks. Work is continuing along, however effort will be more coordinated. The libsecondlife project is primarily focused upon the core API that is being developed, with the rest of the tools being left up to individual developers. For more information please see our website at http://www.libsecondlife.org/We realize that intellectual property is valuable to it's creators. We would plan on addressing some of the issues surrounding proprotecting a creators intellectual property. It has been stated many times before, both within the community of Second Life, and outside, that there is no silver bullet. To that end we want your feedback ! Please vote on our poll, and it will affect the direction of an offshoot of the libsecondlife project. http://www.libsecondlife.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=77

libsecondlife is getting some production-level use these days, such as the recent Long Range concert in SL. This blog post of mine overviews some of the libsecondlife technology used, and has a video of the concert: http://www.jhurliman.org/index.php/2006/long-range-in-second-life-or-cleverly-disguised-robots/

I remember seeing the early tests of this and the later concert (I was on as my main character so I wouldn't be crushed by Caledon business) and was *quite* impressed by this use of libsecondlife technology. I'd like to also credit Horg Neurocam and Davan Camus for the art and technology of the concert. Davan did a bit of a whitepaper for Shoutmesh, the technology used to coordinate twelve sims of concert effects (separate from the libsecondlife effort). Here's the link to what Shoutmesh can do, and more pictures: http://davancamus.hexaflexagon.com/blog/ I hope to create a continent-wide weather system for Caledon via his technology, bringing multi-sim, significant weather effects to Second Life at last. Well done, all!

Vyrnox Ming is also deserving of credit, with his Chisel software ( http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2006/11/the_engines_of_.html) that was used for the grand finale; the giant shifting green cube you can see in the video. Again, great show of art and technology coming together, I think that's what Second Life is all about.

From: Eddy Stryker Errafel: Wrong topic? There was a poll in the linked thread. So wrong forum would be better, heh.

Strange, not one comment here about the CopyBot that was created thanks to LibSecondLife. Don't get me wrong here, I do believe Linden Lab should have an export utility available that would allow someone to export their objects. However, I do not believe this should have been created by a third party.
Also, after seeing your video Eddy, what will stop people from camp 100 avatars by using only one computer? I guess the question here is: how many people are already doing this?

There's a page in the libsecondlife wiki for instructions to help get started using the library, with sections for Windows, Linux, and Mac. The Linux section currently has: From: someone Linux
Fill in the blanks So, if you've gotten libsecondlife to work on Linux, this is a perfect opportunity for you to start or advance your career as a wiki modifier. http://www.libsecondlife.org/protocol/index.php/Getting_Started
