I had to click "never heard of it", sorry.

If I use this on my parcel media url, can I play it on my FreeView TV like I do the american classics channels etc? It is streaming something around the clock?

Even after visiting the webiste, i am not clear if this is 24 hour SL TV or just occasional specials.

I'm baffled. Why would anyone log in to SL to watch TV? Even more baffling. Why would anyone log in to SL to watch TV about SL. Am I losing the plot here?

why do people put video streams on their parcels?, becasue they can, and as i said, if you have quicktime player on your desktop, you can open that, go to file, open URL, then pop this in there: rtsp://media-us-1.soundreach.net/slcnlive.sdp

Yes I’ve heard of SLCN, and they have some great production over there. We have launched Metaverse TV (metaverse-tv.com), an independent Television stream aimed at entertaining the Virtual World, completely in world. All of our programs are filmed inside SL, and we, like SLCN can broadcast in world live. SL’s biggest problem is a lack of central community, this happens because of the limit on SL’s servers. Large number of people congregating creates lag and also server limits how many people can take part in a “community event” I see the SL Community as a large scattered group with no central hub, except maybe these forums, and the blog. With 35K+ people on at a given time, Second Life Television may bridge this community gap for the better of everyone as a whole. There are a lot of hidden treasures in SL, a lot of things that have yet to be explored, yet to be invented. Virtual World television is only a necessary evolution – if you think about it. Virtual Worlds can only get better as they evolve. Aside from that, who wants to pay 500-1000 Linden for pirated music videos that aren’t a shared experience. The only thing we ask is that you give the Second Life TV a try. SLCN has a great lineup, and we at Metaverse TV are budding. We can be seen 24/7 in your SL Parcel at rtsp://198.64.249.22:554/mbc.sdp , as well as our live event stream rtsp://198.64.249.22:8000/live.sdp

Not to mention we are giving away high quality televisions at our headquarters in Richfield for free that will work with any media.

We look forward to seeing where this will take us.

i totaly, agree, rob (i call you rob for short) Television in second lfie may make the community come together in one big knot and share ideas, but there will be the oens who "think its a stupid idea, blah blah blah" but fortunetly, closed minds are not the majority! :)
i think SL has alot of potential, and that its being held back, if we, as a community, band together, we can free its potential, hell, we could even make SL mroe widely known

good luck with metaverse tv, ill be keeping an eye on your progress, and maybe, if you ask us, Ssome of the guys over at SLCN will help you guys out :),

oh and for thoseo f you who want both, here is the URL for slcn again rtsp://media-us-1.soundreach.net/slcnlive.sdp

I hadn't heard of the SLCN, either. I went and watched a couple of shows. Pretty cool, and there are lots of episodes to choose from.

I'd definitely rather watch something like this instead of another pirated movie or R&B video. I could also see loading up a personal media player with some of the clips and watching them while you were away from SL.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

My primary question wouldn't be "Who's heard of SL TV" (or whatever you call it), but "Who actually uses video in SL?" I'm willing to bet that significantly less than half of the people logged in to SL at any time have their "video" option enabled. Some don't even know it exists, some don't use it 'cause of the lag it generates, and others don't use it 'cause 99.9% of what's up on video screens is annoying...

...I applaud your efforts at building an SL TV-Station...it's an interesting concept and I'm sure it'll catch on with the video-friendly-SL-resident-curious-about-unique-programming...I'm just not sure how big of a market that is.

Most interesting. Will check it out.

And yea, I use video on my land. I found some nice lil' streams of old Cartoons (Betty Boop, Tex Avery stuff) and old Horror Films. Love watching 'em when I have the time. NOW- if I can find an Anime station, I'll be watching even more!!

I watched an episode ot two, it's competently done, but I never cared for those types of programs in RL, much less here. Every once in awhile a real classic bad movie will come up on my tv setup, and I'll watch it.

SLCN is getting ready for an explosion of content--you may want to LM their headquarters to keep an eye on things.

I will be one of the many fabulous freelancers working on the expansions and coming attractions, and I'm super excited. [SLCN] has really come a long way, and I can't wait to see where they go next.

If you search events, you'll find every now and then, they hold open-to-the-public meetings utilizing both voice & stream simultaneously. The lady (I guess I can't mention her name because of the TOS) is a wonderful gal, with a head full of ideas.

BTW--if YOU have an idea for a show that will fit in their future time-slots, get in touch with them...they want to hear new innovative show ideas. They will also be focusing a lot of energy on LIVE events (a cool technology and ambitious concept)...

Go check out a meeting sometime.

Why have SL TV?... Why have RL news.... simply because it brings you reports on events around your world...(SL)
Why on earth would anyone want to wait a month to read a historic report on a 2D website?

I had the opportunity to be interviewed at a recent expo [url="http://slcn.tv/gsgg-awm-mars which the intension was to tell anyone interested (even if they didn't think they were previously because they didn't know) about, not just our services as a company, but the huge leap forward in technology that had entered SL and what it can do for the people in SL.

Sadly the interview was over the telephone in a conference between USA, UK and Australia, and my voice doen't carry too well over the phone... not enough bass tone frequencies. Whats more, the cameraman was out of range to trigger the sensor for it to show on his screen LOL...

I've watched movies with friends in other countries, and attended a Rocky Horror Picture Show party.

None of that's going to happen in my RL living room.

Personally I think SL needs a 'SLCN'... As for YouTube.. there are many issues there which I won't start a topic of, as the flammers will seek to shutdown this post.

SL sadly has taken on the role of ignoring copyright when it suits them. Some shout from the rooftops about copybot, IP theft etc etc, yet TP to their skybox and watch a pirate version of a movie. One of the reasons we host and stream all our own content, and show it ingame over the Silver Stream Network, is simply because we respect copyright.

We should encourage and support reporting done from within this environment, rather than those outside sources that send in some faceless newcomer reporter to search for bad news that is then extracted and placed on some RL website. Reuters reports, like many others, that SL has 8+ million users.. whilst those in the platform know thats accounts, and no way reflects the actual users ingame. I have yet to read an outsourced report that shows SL on a day to day, face to face basis as a community... only ever reporting on a single element. Balanced reporting is hard to acheive when the source has no 'life', understanding or investment within this community.

There are many forms of reporting done within SL and for the most part do an excellent job, why?.. Because they are in here with us, they understand the community, the way things work.. they don't just drop in for some sensationalism surrounding a singular topic that is likely to gain them some additional readers, without any cause for concern about what they leave in their wake within the community.

If Blogs, fansites and forums are our RL newspaper equivilants, then SLCN is our roving TV reporters. I would be more concerned having to read/see about SL from the likes of YouTube and Reuters, who have no investment in SL, whereas the ilke of SLCN are more answerable to the community on their doorstep. Their success or failures are very much dependant on the opinions of the community.

Personally and professionally, I think SLCN do a great job, especially when you consider what they charge (its free).

Because I'm able to bring friend from all over the world into my SL living room, have a party and watch bad old movies ala Mystery Science Theater.
