Friendfeed

Some folks here might want to try friendfeed.com as a way or place to communicate with other Second Life users outside of Second Life.

There's some SL users there already, some using SL avatar names, some with their real names.

I'm there as SuezanneC Baskerville, with a friendfeed url of http://friendfeed.com/suezanne .

It has real time streaming chat, which is searchable both within friendfeed and via Google, Bing, etc. You can create groups, private groups, and pull in your comments from other sources like Plurk, Twitter, etc.

You can post videos and images and sound clips. It's pretty neat. It might appeal to some folks that don't like Facebook, Myspace, and so on.

I just saw some posts there from Lordfly Digeridoo, under his real name, and DoubleDown Tandino's Twitter stream provides frequent smart alec comments, links, etc.

Just though some folks might want to give it a try.

I like Friendfeed! It's a smart service.

Posts always include a SLURL link to your actual location. You can send a quick update that automatically includes the parcel description, or write a custom message. If available, the owner or owner-group profile image is also published, accordingly to their privacy settings. So it's an ideal way to participate on web social networks while you're enjoying Second Life. You can publish a quick review of an interesting place you just found in-world, or share with your friends your random thoughts from your home. Here are some examples:

Hi, Opensource. I read your friendfeed posts.

The trick you used to linkify the urls in your posts makes them vanish completely on some people's system, such as, for example, mine. For those not aware, when you notice what seems to be a gap where an url is, you can click the Quote button and the urls will be visible in the quoted text in the text edit box.
