The "Mute Visibility" option is interesting. Do you still bounce off a wall you don't see? Does that nude avatar go bye-bye too? What if he decides to hump your leg? Will everyone else see it but you lol :)

So... are you saying that a leg-humping feature would be a good thing or a bad thing? :)

You will still collide with non-phantom object, but by default they are rendered with 67% transparency and you'll still be able to avoid them. Visibility muting doesn't affect avatars, attachments, or clothing.

Do anybody know of a dual monitor support version of SL yet? I would just be glad to have the text stuff like: inventory, maps, mini-map, chats on the second monitor, and have the primary monitor for the graphics.

I love that Mute Visibility! It seems to make the mute object still visible, not totally transparent, but great for those annoying add farm signs and such!

Hint - default is beta grid, select agni for main grid.

Awesome idea!

I'd imagine you probably want to run full-screen on one monitor while the other windows pop-up on the other monitor.

I think this would be best written as having the app simply open two wndows -- one for the main graphics and perhaps the chat bar, one for everything else, rather than making it specific to two monitors. The user could place the windows as wished on any available monitors. Or you could generalize the idea further and have the chat history, inventory, etc. each be a separate window.

I did mention these requests in the office hours of Benjamin Linden.

There is also a wiki page about the future of the UI: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/UI_Roadmap

Be sure to stop by Benjamin's office!

For Vista users that have had problems with the Sandbox version, we have a fix in the works. There is the quick fix, the simple fix, and the right way. We decided to go with the right way, so look for that in release 1.18.0.6.OS.4. =)

Hey Dzonatas thanks for bring that to Benjamin's attention. Unfortunately I'm not in world during his office hours to hound him on the issue because it looks like he didn't pay to much attention to the request even though Wyn Galbraith stated that with search, inventory, and chat there's hardly any space left to see SL.

btw you mentioned that you separated you UI/keyboard entry from the main window. It that in your current Sandbox release?

I mentioned there was a request, as found in this thread. It is a feature that I would like also. I think I posted a wiki page were such movement is suggested, also.

There has been some dicussion about where the repository for the source will be located and how updates get handled, so that is the immediate concern.

Is the Sandbox edition being kept current? Is there a voice Sandbox edition?

I just went to start SL from the regular Start Programs menu and saw the Sandbox edition there and I don't really remember getting it and installing it, but apparently I did. and it still works in the betat grid so far.

I've been kinda away from development for about a month to attend to family and on-line enough to answer e-mail.

Voice won't work out of the box due to the non open-source nature of it. It's possible, like if one downloads LL's release with voice and then point the viewer to use that voice install.

Sorry for the surprise delay, I expect about another month of personal time with my family.

SB edition image cuz a picture is wortha couple of words.
i made a couple prims to put this image on (while in muted mode) then unmuted the parcel and everything on the parcel came back ,except those prims. otherwise, WOW totally cool, i'm very impressed.

There's one in every crowd.

Today yet another person was asking "Is there any way to keep OP's cameras out of an area?"

How do you tell this person that he could have that kind of privacy it just hasn't had high enough priority yet.

Would I like the ABILITY to make my things only visible to my group or white list? yes very much.

Would I like the ABILITY to make your things invisible to me everywhere on the grid? yes very much.

Would I like the ABILITY to make an adjacent parcel's things invisible to me and my visitors? yes very much. (i would also like my visitors to have the option of declining said feature.)

I would also have it that said invisible things were simultaneously made phantom to me( as well as me being invisible and phantom to the creators of muted object and owners of muted parcells)

So instead of the current practice of banning people from my property via white/black list
they are only banned from being visible, interacting with (or even seeing) things (or Avatars) on my property.

With so much less to send down the pipe and so much less to render SL would run very much faster for everyone.

With no need for the glass forest of ban lines people will be able to fly around SL once again. (one of my special pleasures i no longer enjoy)

And yes i include the option of invisible Avatars in each of the above.

So go ahead dis anything and everything about SL and mock any attempt to improve it.
I'd rather do something else.

It appears there are contract/license issues that LL wishes to remain silent about. Hope for them to to change if they truly want an effort from Open Source developers.

09-28-2007 07:06
Hi guys,
I have a bit a nooby question: I installed sandbox edition(last version), but it fails everytime to login. Says, caps might be on or something. Is there a right way to do it or maybe select a different grid? Well..I like to check the .obj feature...
Thanks in advance

The beta grid has been down a lot recently.

Also, the main grid now requires a newer version of the viewer. The current Sandbox version is based on 1.18.0.6. The grid wants at least 1.18.2.x. There is a way to fake it, but I haven't updated the build yet to do that. I'll just base the next build on the latest branch.

In fact, I've already imported the latest LL branch, and I see a lot of the patches that were tested made it into release (or soon to be released).

I'll post it here when ready.

As for the more social aspect, Prokofy has an interesting post:

http://secondthoughts.typepad.com/second_thoughts/2007/09/open-sourceclos.html

However, using Prokofy's exemplified "Open Source == Closed Society" based on past experiences with SL development is an unwarranted insult to Open Source devs that have nothing to do with SL.
