Friends, The Electric Sheep Company is proud to present the public Beta release of SLWebSearch, a tool for searching the many and growing collection of websites related to Second Life. For instance, you can: -- Find out who's blogging about you! -- Catch up on the latest news in circulation! -- Look for products on multiple SL shopping websites simultaneously! -- Scour the net for useful scripting and building tips! We believe that given the current state of the in-world search, this can be an indispensible tool for finding out more about what's going on in Second Life, via the old-fashioned but still awesome 2-D medium known as the Web. Check it out at http://www.slwebsearch.com. Tell your friends! And as this is a Beta release, tell us what you think, too. Does it look funky on your favorite browser? Can you break it? What features would you like to see? E-mail feedback to contact@electricsheepcompany.com, or just IM me when you see me in-world. Hope to catch you all at SLCC in a few days!

Given the upcoming integration of HTML into SL, I think this will become an immensely useful tool.

When we decided to do this, many moons ago, we were thinking "boy, it'll be awesome how HTML-on-a-prim will be ready by the time this comes out!"
Such is the way of the future. It is a slow, unwieldy beast - but one like a rhinoceros, that bursts into full speed and ATTACKS when you least expect it.
But hopefully it's useful anyway, and getting more useful as the index range expands and we learn from our mistakes. Coming soon: an RSS feed for new sites added!

I like this analogy a lot!

RSS feed for new sites now available here. Dates/times on current items are slightly bogus, but new sites from the next crawl (should be ready in a few days) will be less so. I'm not a big RSS user, so if there's anything annoying about the feed other than bogus dates, do let me know. Keep submitting your sites and and feedback!

A clean crawl of most of SLWebSearch's indexed content is now live, meaning most sites in the index are now up-to-date. Check it out!
Also, the site was briefly down earlier today. This turned out to be an unrelated issue with the host, though you can bet the timing with our adding a bunch of content gave me a scare!
