Tired of trying to find SL sites using the del.ici.ous? Afraid Find is going to go down again? Add your SL locations and SL-related web sites to the SearchSL.com directory for free. SearchSL is a fully searchable and browseable guide to SL web sites, blogs, forums, and much more, currently with over 100 sites in it. The directory is arranged in a familiar Yahoo-style guide by category, and you can search titles and descriptions, sort alphabetically, by date added, popularity, and more. Sites can also be rated and commented on. SL locations are included using SLURLs and can have descriptions of up to 1000 characters. The number of clicks are tracked for all links, including SLURLs. The directory features preview thumbnails of web sites, and image support is coming soon for SLURLs as well.

To add your site or SL location, go to SearchSL.com and go into the desired category. At the top of the page, you will see a Suggest Link button - fill out the information there and you're set. You can include notes about your submission if you would like it placed into multiple categories or the exact category you would like does not exist. If you have any questions, please contact me at cristiano@sluniverse.com .

This is a great service too, in addition to SLUniverse's other excellent features.

This might be a good url to put in the F1 browser's homepage url, using Client Debug Settings to set HtmlHelpHomePage to http://searchsl.com .

----- a few minutes pass -----

Well, I see the links don't appear to work through the F1 browser.

When I click a link like the one for Sky Mall I get a "waiting for www.sluniverse.com" message and nothing happens.

Links like the one in the left sidebar that says "Add Inworld Locations" seem to work to load new pages in the F1 browser.

Perhaps plain old "secondlife://simname/x/y/z" links could be added?

Improving the F1 browser seems to me like it would be a good way for LL to spend some of it's money.

Doing this lead me to clicking on a link to sluniverse's knowledgebase in the F1 browser; there is a nicely illustrated guide to how to create textures with transparency in Paint Shop Pro. What an efficient way to get information.

LL says it wants to see resident run websites flourish. There is nothing they could do better to aid this goal than to improve the browser in the client and make it even easier to set your start page.

In world locations are slowly starting to be submitted. Make sure you submit your site - it is free, and the in world find is still not working fully. Make sure people can find your SL location whether find is working or not. The more sites added, the more useful it becomes.

Hey Cris, have you ever tried to get access to the event information that is displayed at eventful.com? If you could get access to it it might be a valuable addition to SLuniverse.

From what I read, Eventful has a special agreement with LL that they will push SL events onto the eventful site.

It would be nice if they extended that to everyone, rather than just a select few (or one) :).

It might be in both LL's and Evenful.com's interests to revoke such an agreement, assuming it exists.

I doubt that eventful.com gets enough traffic from SL use to make much difference to it.

I suspect LL would benefit more from having the event information used more, and that it would be used more by having it appear on SL-centric sites. I'd like to see this feed - filtered, edited, augmented in ways dependent on the site - at sluniverse, sl-forums, slboutique, slexchange, secondcitizen, and every site that wants it. (If they add plain secondlife://simname/x/x/z urls to the listings in addition to the slurls that appear that would be real good.)

It would be nice to have this event search able to be viewed in the webtab or in a mozilla browser like the F1 help browser.

If I understand correctly, an event search system running on non-LL servers that appeared in the webtab or sl-mozilla browser wouldn't be putting burden on the LL servers. I believe this would also apply to places search, classifieds, etc.
