Is it worth listing products on SL Exchange if you're not paying for extras to boost your ranking? I've tried to find my listings by entering a very specific combination of words and gave up after wading through endless pages of irrelevant results. I don't see how anyone else is going to find my stuff on there.

There are many things you can do to help people find you amidst the multitudes.
Announcing your new products in the forum's NEW PRODUCTS thread always attracts interested people to your items. Remember to include the URL to the product on Exchange, and even an extra link to your "All This Merchant's Items" page helps too. Attach a pic to your forum post for more interest.
Advertise in the many publications in SL. Don't ever underestimate the value of advertising.
Make a device that will open people's browser to the "all your items page" on Exchange - put it in your store in SL and any other place that you can.
I could go on, but its almost time to go home from work.
Advertise, advertise, advertise.

Thanks MenuBar, I've posted in the SL Exchange forum with links and pics. See how it goes.

I do not go around in worlds in poorly designed stores and alike to find something, I always use slexchange for easy search and fast transaction.
There are only a few stores I go directly to.
Most stores are annoying to run around, it takes time for every texture to load, it takes time to 'wander' the halls etc etc.
SLexchange is going for the category I want and I can fastly scan if the item provided is what I am looking for, cross store, cross sim with a lot of information I do not have inworld and with mechanisms to actually restrict the search.
I would not mind going in world then to visit a store and buy there, but as most store owners seem to be not capable of providing a decent shop layout, it is much much MUCH easier and much more convinient to buy on SLX.
Additionally I read some blogs which present new outfits and will follow their lead but usually end up for searching such an item on slx as it is not findable in store easily.
this as a customer view. Nixande

The best visibility you can get on either slx or slboutique is to list everyday!
Most people will look at the newest items before shopping for what they specifically came for. Then also make sure you have keywords that people search for that pertain to the item you are selling. Research the keywords so you can maximize your hits.
