hi folks,
on friday it was announced the WSE(World Stock Exchange) will close its ATM`s and Ticker and the WSE will be closed untill the 2nd of april to move the servers.
Somehow tradeing was possible anyhow untill sunday the 1st 12sm PDT ish, while investors been told by the CEO of HCL(WSE owner) it would be closed. ATM and Ticker was working at that time too. Before,on sunday morning(while officily closed but magicly open) some listed companies have been taken off trade, while others (incl HCL) still could be traded. The (now) offline WSE webpage says since beeing closed today(1st of april 12AM PDT ish) the following

"The World Stock Exchange is currently offline for maintenance. We will be back as soon as possible. We anticipate a few days of downtime."

that doesnt sound as they intend to open on the 2nd of april (less then 24hours after taken offline).

CEO`s of different listed companies and IPO`s told me they cant talk about it,
so whats is going on?

I would imagine they are rolling out a new all singing, all dancing site and need a couple of days for it to be down while they work on it as i imagine its not a 5 min job in "FrontPage" ;) and when we are meant to know we will be told im sure :)

That is consistent with what I was told and the notices in the Exchange, that is a move to a new high-end server and a reopen on the 2nd April at 12 o’clock SL time. On that latter point am not sure what time that is in GMT terms, and if it is midnight GMT or 12 noon if you follow me.

I personally am not a computer programmer but in a group IM yesterday I asked if it was any type of big deal to move a stable site (software related) to a new server. I was advised that this was not considered to be a big issue.

Will await events, one comment I would add is that there was a Tsunami off the coast of Australia last night (GMT). This does have the potential to disrupt Internet connections because of damage to undersea cables, this did happen last Xmas

often the downtime 48 hours because this is the time it takes or maximum time it takes for a domain name to propogate across the entire internet. Some places see them very quickly but the 48 hour thing is common and its often related to the domain name propogation before that they are using the ip address of the server until its fully propogated.

Most places when they move use this 48 hour time frame even if them manage to move everything in one day it still means that a portion of the world might not actually see the new site for 2 days because of where they are in relation to the server. A 5 minute move of a 3 page website still takes 48 hours to appear due to this and there isn't anything anyone can do about it.

thanks for your comments lads, but my concern was more why have we been told the ATM,Ticker and webpage will be offline on friday, but all was still working fine on sunday noon SL time. as much as I try to find out, there is a wall of silence if I ask why was certain companies still listed and active tradeing(HCL with huge rise in shareprice) possible while others (for example TSF) have been taken off trade without any comment so far.

There was a group notice that stated Luke and others in the Exchange are reviewing all companies to make sure they have complied with the listing rules to date.

In addition I have had at least 3 group notices warning us of various rumours going around and suggesting we discard them and await events.

I agree it was possible to trade for a day or so following the announcement of a change of server, however there was a warning the Exchange would accept no responsibility in the event of corrupt data impacting on individuals, following such trades

On the other thread in this Forum (which I started and update on a more or less weekly basis) I have also commented that it is inevitable some quoted businesses will fail for one reason or another. That is an exact mirror of both First and Second Life. Personally I have no inside information on this thread topic nor have sort to be informed.

My views are based on what I personally see, that way I can remain independent.

Cannot add anything more at this stage, however if events occur I may comment on them on my weekly thread

Hope this helps

John,

Many thanks for your updates, I hope they will continue.

I believe you can still be independent even though you seek out information, just ask any journalist! This would possibly add value to your thoughts. In any case please continue.
