There are sevreal companies and open sources projects working on universal identities. A single user name and password that can be used to log into hundreds of sites, with out the need to register at each one. (http://identitycommons.net/ & http://www.projectliberty.org/ ) I don't pretend to know how it works, but I assume part of the technology prevents any one site from collecting the nessisary data to steel an account.
I find the idea of a universal account intreging. I am already have 20 e-mail accounts, 40 message bords, 20 or so games that require log in. I"m sure i'm forgetting 20 or so accounts for some thing. Oh ya ebay, amazon, extra. And in short i'm now hesitant to register for new web sites. Expecially if the web sites about some thing i'd only use ones in a blue moon.
Storing the password localy in a key chain worked for a while. But all the key chain systems i've come across afail to be modular. So I can't take the key chain on the road. Keeping a list works, but if I want to change some thing on all my account it would take hours. Haivng to log into almost a hundred sites.
Wouldn't it be cool if sl had some thing like digital identies to use with all the fan sites? what do you think?
