Ok, I'm deleting ALL my calling cards to help welcome in the New Year (um..) so if you get deleted (which you will) don't be offended!

I haven't done it yet. I'm scared that the day after I do delete a bunch of cards, the Lindens will change their mind about them adding to the bonus.

PS: If I deleted your card the other night it is not because i dis-like you.
I mearly havent spoken to you often so don't know you well enough to care when you log on or off.

I keep all mine too. I dont always interact with all of them, but if you delete mine, it also deletes yours to me. There is much less chance I will have any dealings with you. Maybe thats how you want it, thats fine, it does not really hurt my feelings.
But, just remember your a lot more likely to be less popular if you delete your cards.

Thats a kind of needless tit-for-tat thought track.
If you talked to me ONCE and gave me your card but never talked to me again and I don't care when you log on or off then if I remove your not used card you are upset at me for it.
.... even thow the find window works great and teleports take little more than a second.
Grow up.

I bet you throw out Christmas cards too! I agree having the card of everyone I ever met is a bit ridiculous, but Darwin, what are you as the leader of the number one voluntary spam group doing by throwing out EVERY one of your cards? Just lazy? Or do you really not want to hear from us again? Heheh.

What do you people expect me to do with 300 Xmass cards? Put them in a box? Recycling is our friend.
Plus: Xmass cards don't tell me when you log in.

you can set your preferences so that you don't have the scrolling login messages of everybody. I know that the calling cards don't have any specialness anymore but to me, collecting cards is part of the fun of SL. I know I probably won't see half the people again, but it is fun.

"Networking" to get ahead in the real world is one of the many things I hope get left mostly behind in VR. That, and, um, billboards!

Gwydeon, was that "grow up" stuff directed at me? You must have read more into it. I really, honestly dont care if people delete calling cards. All I was trying to say is that those that you delete will have less access to you, thats all. Sorry if I sounded mad

I may have taken it more venomusly than It was meant because: 1) Sometimes hard to interpret text. 2) I think I had just posted another argument in a heated thread and was thus on a roll looking for another reason to get snipy. 3) I also think I might have been on a call with a perticularly stupid / anoying customer at the time. So my appologies Loki, if I deleted your card I'll come beg for a new one

Thanks Gwydeon. It is nearly impossible to read into the type written word the intent of the statements sometimes. I see how my wording got that reaction from you, but I really was not upset in the least while I was typing them. I was just trying to explain that deleting cards means you will be less accessible. And, I failed miserably. Its very easy to have these misunderstandings, you cant hear the voice or see the body language to really get the intent in which they were delivered. Thanks for your understanding this. I will try to be more precise in my choice of words, its tough sometimes though

sooo... I just cleaned out a good portion of my calling cards and when I was done it seemed that I had about 100 $L that I don't think was there before. Does erasing calling cards give us money?! For that matter, does getting Calling cards take money? If not, I think I may have just figured out a good way to "earn" money....

Look. The reason I gathered the cards I did is so that I have easy quick access to the people in the world that I might want to meet of talk to. Using Find was never a suitable option It was kludgey and almost guaranteed that the process could not be quick or easy. Not having cards also made the mapping function useless, and made it impossible to select a name from the Instant Message list. It also made it hard to see at a glance the range of people I know who might be in-world at a given moment.
THAT's why I have so many cards. Mostly to compensate for a set of features that really OUGHT to have been in the UI in the first place.
Why would I want to disable my mapping pulldown and my instant messaging list by throwing out all my cards????
I guess the reason others look at this differently is because they approach the player to player relationship differently. I tend to look at tit like we are all equal participants and I may, at any moment, be just as likely to have to talk to you as to the next guy. Why should I have to interview everyone before making a determination that you may matter to me again some day? How the heck COULD I make that determination so early in the relationship?
Other people, I guess, restrict themselves to only the lucky few who are interesting at the outset, or those who will clearly be useful over the long term.
Different strokes, I guess.
Anyway, I just thought I'd say, if I REFUSE your card, it's because I've decided you will never be significant to me. I tend to save my resources even if I have no use for them right now. I only throw things away when I KNOW they’ll be useless. If I collect and keep your card, it's so that I might be able to find you later, maybe much later, when life might bring us together in some special – even momentary - juxtaposition.
Thanks for listening.
I guess I'll just get used to working harder to communicate with my fellow players. :-/

Sorry IMHO:
Calling Card collection = Buddy list.
Find feature = communication.

Calling Card collection = way to find any random person I may NEED to find And as such I keep all of mine... eh... I never hold it against someone if they delete mine. Sometimes the system randomly deletes them... at least that's what Char said about my card ...

From: someone Originally posted by Gwydeon Nomad Sorry IMHO:
Calling Card collection = Buddy list.
Find feature = communication. Well, I don't need a buddy list. I have a particular dislike for cliques. Not that YOU can't have one, but I don't like 'em. Never did. And I prefer my communication a bit more spontaneously. That Find feature is a lot more keystrokes and clicks than finding someone in the bold part of the IM list. Anyway, I just think folks should consider that there might be REASONABLE reasons for someone to gather a lot of cards. Other than the money - which, by the way, was never enough to make me search out strangers for their cards. (I'm not a very friendly person, you might have noticed. I collected cards for the simple purpose of being able to see if someone is available, and to talk to them easily if they were. I liked being able to go shopping, see a nice pair of shoes, and then check the IM list to see if the creator is around - just in case they might have a pair in blue. I have made a LOT of deals with people whose cards I happened to have gathered at a class I taught. Flying along, seeing their land, thinking I could use it, seeing their online and calling them up. And, if I know two people who can script something, it is a LOT easier to simply see which one is online before I send out a complicated request. So, I'm just replying to the constant insinuation from various folks that the only reason some of us have a lot of cards was because we were using people's cards to pay for our high-priced lifestyles :-/ Sorry. Just ranting. Nevermind.

Well, I for one will not be deleting any of my cards (unless I know for certain a person has left the game for good). I also won't get offended when someone deletes my card from their list. We each have our own reasons for keeping them or letting them go. I also plan to continue collecting them from others who's card I would like to have for whatever my reason may be. So if you had my card and deleted it, I may forget and see you again and try for another one. heheh... Don't hate me if I do.

I don't understand how a buddy list is the same as a clique? so anyone who has friends is in a clique?
I have a friends (buddy) folder for some of my calling cards because those are people I seek out regularily because I am friends with them. Everyone else is sorted by last name in folders. But I do move people from those to my friends folder as I meet and talk with them.
And I have a cancelled folder filled with people who have deleted my calling card from their folders.
Personally I like calling cards and would like to see the options on them expanded to make them even more useful.
