We all want to have more people playing but what can we do to help make that happen? Well, here's my little help, one big tip to newbies!

Ok, so you've logged in and tried stuff and it all looks interesting but now you face a problem. What next? When I think back I was close to ditching the demo at this point as I really had no idea what I would get up to.

Being a pirate I decided to make a ship and this kept me quite entertained for a few days. Then I moved on to some other projects and slowly have got the hang of making my own fun. But that first hurdle is really hard!

So, newbies. Once you've got a handle on the game:
- think of a project and start work
or:
- fly around and look for an interesting place and see if there are projects you can join in with.

It's the best way to meet people and experience SL (unless you're a mad socialiser). Give it a go!

Another thing to think about is that just because someone may have already done a project you'd like to tackle six months ago, that doesn't mean you can't do it better or find plenty of people interested enough to help you out. SL is a new world every day!

I say, *DO* visit Jessie, but set your "Home" location to somewhere nearby, in case you're shot.

Actually, Jessie is usually pretty quiet. I sometimes visit there to see what's going on and to visit Bhodi's gallery.

Newbies should contact Jack Orlowski or another Jessie resident if they're interested in SL combat.

My biggest tip for noobs would be DONT SPEND ALL YOUR FRICKEN MONEY and above all DONT BEG OTHER PPL FOR MORE MONEY.
Dont spend 1000 bucks on a stupid hoverboard. Spend a month learning the ropes and then you will be able to make 10 different hoverboards in less than 5 minutes each.
Its not like SL is rocket science...

I'd say my #1 tip for newbies is..

EVENTS, EVENTS, EVENTS!!!!!

I can remember when I started, and I was thrilled with building for a few hours, but I wasn't quite hooked.. However, when I started going to events, and meeting all the wonderful people that play SL, THEN I was hooked :)

In the end, it all depends on what the newbie is looking for, but the events were a great way to start for me.

Iggy, I second that. In my first week, I made the mistake of buying a big chunk of land and building and elaborate... something-or-other on it. Couldn't do anything else. If you *really* want your own land (you don't need it), buy an 8x8 patch and practice building smallish things. Don't leave it there at tax time :)

Oh and Gwydeon, this is off-topic here, but I think you mistake Jack's intentions. He's the biggest proponent of combat I've met in Jessie and seems to want to encourage more and better combat. There are, however, certain elements in Jessie who would use scripts that impede actual combat. More guns, more combat, fewer griefers. I think that's was the gist of what he's doing.

Yes! Don't spend all your money, have no source of income and then complain about taxes and the system.

My first plot of land wasnt even big enough for the cabin. Making enough money for a big project takes time. If you want to hurry and jump into something, get together with other folks and pool your resources.

If you found you got in over your head, link your build(s) and put them in inventory for a cash refund (minus taxes paid).

As an actual newbie to SL, I'll add my $0.02 too.

Something has to keep you interested. Unfortunately because of RL (job in my case...family for others...a jealous significant other at times....or whatever...) not everyone can go to events all the time or devote even and hour for the event. Or even spend time for building projects.

So, it doesn't really matter what it is. If it's scripts, play with scripts! If it's fashion, play with fashion! I think as long as something interests you, you'll come back for more.

SL suffers from the fact that something like this, or at least something like this in this big of a scale, is relatively new. It's hard to get a bearing on what's going on, what you can do, and where you can go. After all, there's no "newbie quest" :) But at least for me, my interest was in scripts when I started but now that I see not only the amazing architecture but the amazing fashion and skins too, I've started down that road first.

Made my first t-shirt a few days ago. Took a while but hey, I was happy :)

I guess, though I'm still new at this, I would push anyone new to find a nitch and stick with it. ....but just like any other MMORPG, play smart. After all, even in the "traditional" games, no one likes the newbie begging for money or health potions or a portal in town :)
