I keep hearing that if you own an island you are just being anti-social and want to be isolated from everyone else. But I have observed the exact opposite. Whenever I go to an island I see like 5 to 12 people hanging out, dancing, shopping, playing games and having a good time. I don't understand how that is being anti-social. I mean some islands are owned by people who got together and build on a central theme. Doesn't that require you to be social?
If you want to talk about isolation, take a trip through the freakin snow sims. I usually go hours before another avatar comes by. *cries* I am so lonely!
Honestly it just seems like people moved the things that really brought down a sim like casinos, mega malls and nightclubs off the mainland. So they can still have their fun and there are no other people in the sim to lag to death. That seems like being considerate to me. Not like they "gave up on people".

Thats my interpretation too, Kasandra, I've had a lot of fun and hung out with some very friendly folks on those island sims.

Yeah Kasandra, and therein lies a problem with far-flung generalizations -- an island is defined in part by who owns it, what they are doing with it, who comes there to socialize and further those interactive dynamics, and soforth. To sweep all of them into cloneland is as ignorant as smoking a banana and thinking you will get so high that Mary Poppins won't have a whit of alienography on you. Some islands are definitely private places (and invisible from the map). But there are certainly a lot of party islands, some for exploration with beautiful build venues, and much, much more. As for the snow sims, I can relate because Oz and I... well, on his epic journey, we did just that. And yes, it was very lonely for the most part if we didn't have each other's company, LOL!

Maybe if the snow sims had... more telehubs. O_O
Seriously, have you looked at how far it is to the nearest hub from, say, Hoodoo? No wonder there's no traffic!
Islands, if anything, make things more social because the telehub is -always- nearby. Telehubs breed commerce. And commerce breeds social gathering.
There we are.
I mean, sure, you're not going to fly through an island on your way to somewhere else, but how many people regularly fly through on their way somewhere and land to talk to random people? (Torley Torgeson excluded.)
('Course, the invisible islands/islands where there are no telehubs... Well, that -is- just anti-social.)

Heya! As a sim owner I would like to say THANK YOU! We are NOT all trying to be anti social , sometimes yeah its nice to have alone time, but mostly on Slootsville you will find a group of us either scattered about doing what we want, or a gang of us together having fun times! and generally assing about... I have NEVER asked anyone to leave or go away, I embrace visitors and lately have met quite a few great and interesting ppl by them just exploring! I admit I don't get out onto the mainland sims anymore, only to shop , but when I had my land in Maui I rarely ventured off it except to shop, so I don't really see how owning a sim and not moving, is any different to owning mainland and not moving, I guess some ppl just really wanna believe us sim owners are all anti social muppets! But C'EST LA VIE!!!
