Will more telehubs be added?

Just wondering, as I have to cross an entire sim to reach my casino, which isn't exactly a rural-type place ;) Quick answer by the Lindens would be sufficient (and feel free to say "No, we want to see the urban/rural effect with our current hubs" because I'll understand).

I think the Urban/Rural thing is good right now. However, there are some issues, like teleporting directly to Teal will not work, you have to teleport to the Lime hub and fly. If you try to teleport to Teal, it tells you there are no hubs close enough. Also, I think the Ahern and Luna hubs are VERY close. Why? Eventually, within about a month's time, I think we will see things developing based on Hub locations. Cool :D

I dont mean to bog down your post, but I know some more will be added. I sent a bug report when I discovered you cant teleport to Teal. The teleport rejects due to no TH within 1km of destination. Support replied and said some more TH will be added.

Thanks for the news Loki! That's not bogging down this post at all, it's helping it! :D

I really really really hope that the theme communities get the chance to create their own telehubs and that maybe people like me who own specialty real-estate (casino in my case, disco/boardwalk in other's cases) can make our own telehubs for you guys to take directly to our places :D

No no no, I don't like that idea at all. I hate to say it Dave, but telehubs in strategic locations are a GOOD IDEA. It creates a feeling of rural/urban areas, making SL more like a real world. I like that :)

I know Darwin, I know, but there are specific places that just don't fit into the whole Urban/Rural effect, like the planned community sims, themed sims, sandbox sims, and various other land areas that simply will not change. These are places unaffected by telehubs, except that they are far away from them.

But seriously, I understand why they are there and why not to add more, just wondering if anyone thinks places which won't be affected by the rural/urban changes really need to take a while to get to, or if that's actually an effect we're going for...

There are also places that are already urban that should really have a hub that don't... like Aqua. I'm guessing they're just placing them based on having a certain spread and not picking locations based on what's already there... alas.

The telehub in Mauve would have made a lot more sense maybe near the Teal/Slate amphitheatre, since there is a hub in Lime as well. As for the casino in Zoe, there is a telehub in Natoma, which is plenty convenient for most people, it all being pretty much the backwater of SL.

The placement of the telehubs may have also be restricted by what land was available for the Lindens to use.

Personally, I don't like the telehubs.
I liked being able to directly teleport to an area. If I didn't want to pay then I'd fly.

Why can't there be the option to directly teleport to an area if you are willing to pay? (like before)

I love teleporting to a hub to land on someone, bump someone, or have someone land on me. So much fun!

I also wanted to suggest letting us teleport to places as long as we're willing to pay, but that would just completely circumvent the whole reason we have telehubs in the first place, the whole urban/rural aspect thing.

I think what we have to remember in this situation is that Second Life is more or less a grand experiment, so if the telehubs did infact show that an urban/rural feel overcame the world, that would be one more thing we've learned about online societies, which as far as I'm concerned, is a very important thing!

Besides, there are always jetpacks to get to your destination within 5 seconds :D

I disagree, there'll be times when I'm out of money or feeling cheap and I won't want to pay and Id use the telehubs. Right now I find them very inconvenient to teleport to and then half to fly across several map squares to get to where I want to go.

That's just it, Camille, the place you want to go isn't close to a telehub! It's in a rural location, therefore, it should be expected that it takes longer to get into the rural areas than the urban areas. I can't hop on a subway and take it to a farm, now can I?

No, James, you can't hop a subway and take it to a farm... but in SL the "subway" now goes to several farms, but some urban areas don't have subway.:D

No but I can get in my car and drive really fast!
Or take a train. Subways are usually limited to cities anywhere but trains aren't.

I'm in Tehama and that is very built up, not rural at all. So why dump me in the middle of Da Boom? Makes no sense at all. If I'm willing to pay - why not let me teleport directly? especially now that on the map, the pull down tab of all your landmarks doesn't show them fully - cuts them off. Means you have to have your inventory open to see the exact map location you want to go to.

If I was rich in RL I could Helicopter to the stupid farm.

While there may be land in Tehama - plenty of Linden-owned land, too - to put up a telehub, the sim was yesterday at a full 100% object usage. Are you all going to get together and delete things so they can put one in? Incidentally, when I and a few others flew around Tehama we couldn't figure out where all those prims actually were. it's not even as built up as it was, and the stores seem to have fewer contents than they did.QUOTE]Originally posted by Camille Serpentine

Yup - I tried to build stuff yesterday and got the server is full message. I have a small plot and 6 objects.
might have to move.

A lot of that stuff belongs to accounts I'm fairly certain are inactive, so if you like your lot, just get your stuff built in another location and have it ready to drop on your property the first chance you get - probably wont be long.
