are there any SL couples where the female avi is a guy in RL and the male avi a female in RL? I'm not talking necessarily about the sex-ball aspect but perhaps people who became friends and then fell in love (for example) and the love transcends the fact that the avi's are reversed from RL.

I don't know of any ftm/mtf couples, but there is the famous coupling of two straight males playing female avs. Hamlet wrote about it here.

Do two SL females count when one is a male RL?

Nala and I were friends first, became roommates and then fell in love. Nala has always been a female in SL and so have I. I was drawn to the soul of Nala; the playfulness and beauty. It doesn't matter to me what form Nalala takes, it's what's inside that binds me to the dynamic person I'm in love with.

Would I have felt differently if Nala had been a girl? Who's to say? I just know I fell for the whole of my pink chicken, my friend, my love.
