Do I get any bonus for giving ratings, or only when I recive any?

You get bonuses for both.. when you rate others, and when others rate you.

hehe, these days, it's not really an issue. don't even worry about it

but to answer you question, you only get a bonus for ratings you receive.

I still feel the rating change was grossly unfair. No one is being rated now.

Well, I always rate when I meet someone nice, or whatever else it can be. It feels much better to rate when it´s honestly deserved. JMHO!

And no one is making any money either...

I get rated once a day atleast because I'm awesome(/ego). If you want ratings, be awesome like me.

I only rate those that deserve a Neg rating now. And thats if they realy cheese me off..sorry those that should get positive ratings but..the economys starting to reflect real life...and being nice just isnt cost effective.

I still get rated - not as often of course- a couple a day only and usually remotely on building. But i like that- makes me think that if someone is going to spring for the extra L$ they really do appreciate you or your work and are not doing it out of habit or obligation.

Oh, there was the one i begged for and offered to reimburse (post rate hike), just so i could get a nice round number - which of course backfired because someone else overheard and rated me too - but it was cool of them to aide me in my obsessive compulsive leanings- thanks, guys!

I used to like the general goodwill that propagated around SL with widespread ratings - it was an icebreaker and conversation starter, whether the system was used rightly or wrongly it worked in its own way...

Now there seems to be just a little more insularity in SL... or perhaps I'm paranoid...

I still rate when someone really makes an impression on me, but in my personal opinion the Lindens got this change a little wrong.

Upping to $5 or $10 may have made enough of a difference for more selective rating, if that is what was intended by the change - which I still don't entirely understand to be honest - but shoving it as high as $25 seems to have almost shut the system down through being too expensive for many people.

Yeah, it means you've wasted $25L and all the oldbies and midbies have a huge advantage in ratings over newbies.

Yes it really does, and it makes it feel better to give and recive it too.

I also think this is an excellent idea, but you might want to distance it from the native SL rating system further somehow. Like don't call them rates. You could get really fancy and give extra prizes to people who 'rate' and get 'rated' the most, above and beyond what LL would provide. That way it would stand out and above the native SL rating system.

I think this could be a lot more versatile than what the native SL rating system was designed to do.

I'd pitch this to clubs hard, you might want to work some pretty close knit deals with bigger clubs. Free ad space and more etc... sponsorship maybe. Custom rating badge things maybe. Make them worthy fashion accessories.

for me it's like "long live expensive ratings that make people not want to give them which makes the whole thing easier to ignore since it's still meaningless" but that's not as catchy.
