Anyone doing AIDS/LifeCycle 4?

For those of you who don't know, ALC4 is the AIDS fundraising bicycle ride from San Francisco to LA. If you haven't thought about doing ALC4, you might. I did ALC2, and it was a rewarding and amazing experience. You will meet great people, and see amazing things. You will learn that if you can ride a bike from San Francisco to LA, you can do anything.

For those of you riding, I know the ride is more than half a year away, so fundraising might not be on your mind yet, but I can tell you after doing ALC2 that it's never too early to start fundraising. (And the holidays are a great time to do fundraising for ALC4.)

You can also do fundraising as a team of riders, and I think it would be cool to have an SL Team. I can't go on the ride this year, but I'd love to help organize for people doing the ride this year. Maybe we could even get a VERTU fundraising drive or get LL to sponsor.

Also, if you're in the Fremont, CA area, I can loan you some of the equipment you'll need, give you some advice, and go on some training rides with you.

If pudgy ole first life me can do it, can you, too. If you have any questions about the ride, feel free to ask me.

Also, if a 700 mile ride is a bit much for you, there are AIDS Marathons. I know much less about them, but I'm sure they are just as rewarding.

Hey Stoneself!

I'm actually riding in ALC4!!! I'm a rider from CT and the only other event I've ever ridden was a ride from Houston to Dallas (325 mi/4 days). I'm pretty confident about the fundraising.

I'd LOVE to be part of a Second Life/VERTU team!

In addition to the events you listed, here's my own shameless plug for the Montreal to Boston AIDS Vaccine Bike Trek. I'm one of the co-founders and organizers for the event. I'm in charge of marketing and the website, public relations et al. I would SERIOUSLY LOVE for fellow SL'ers to join us on our Trek. It's 425 miles in 5 days from Montreal, QC Canada to Boston, MA and winds through postcard-quality scenery such as waterfalls, swimming holes, covered bridges, breathtaking gorges and quaint little New England towns. 100% of the money our riders raise goes directly to the UCLA AIDS Institute and the Emory Vaccine Center. Last year we raised over $118,000 USD for these innovative researchers. Out of the previous year's $90,000 take, UCLA used $20,000 to fund a very experimental hypothesis which was successful and won them a $300,000 grant!
