I don't think I've ever gotten a Sony product that did not seem top-notch, and to date have never had a problem customer service-wise.
What's the motive behind the poll? |

Sony makes some quality products, and they are relatively reasonable priced with the exception of their computers, which are a bit over-priced and under-featured. HP or Compaq beat them hands down in price with about the same level of performance.
Other peronal computer company rankings in my opinion: Dell - sucks (even more overpriced and under-featured than Sony, and they try and pull some cheap tricks and shortcuts with their systems. Gateway - Ho hum (again over-priced) Falcon Northwest - don't make me laugh. Great systems at far too great a cost. I'll build you one from the ground up at half the price with equal performance. Alienware - Again..too friggin much. Great systems, real fast, top quality parts, but you pay through the yingyang, and far over off-the-shelf prices, just to have them install them for you. Not worth it in the long run, unless you have cash to burn. CyberPower - Far more reasonable, with tons of choices for customizing and equally great quality parts at about half the price of falconNW or Alienware. Real up and comers and worth checking out. Toshiba - fine if you want a business laptop. Quality, but a bit overpriced if you want the bells and whitlse. IBM - only good for business laptops. The rest ain't worth thecheap plastic they are mad out of. eMachines - very much worth the little money you pay for them. Their parts aren't by any means the top of the heap, but they don't charge you much for them. Great starter, or add-on PCs and laptops, but not sure if they are even still in the business. Compaq and HP - about the best bang for the buck. A nice balance of features and price, though you probably won't get a screaming game machine from them without adding some of your own parts. yada yada..not sure why i typed all that. Must be real bored at work ![]() _____________________

They may be down with the whole patent fever thing - but their products are of excellent quality. Really wished they hadnt stopped making their trinitron monitor lines.

I can't wait for my PSP parcel tomorrow. I get the feeling tomorrow's going to be totally wasted playing Ridge Racer and Wipeout Pure It's just a shame Sony pushed the European release date back so much (it's looking like June now) but there's a roaring import trade in the UK with several companies importing en-mass, which is where I've got mine from ![]() This thread actually made me go round the house - I've got more Sony stuff than I realised. |

My only experience with Sony is in the form of their mmo company, Sony Online Entertainment. Well, I can sum up my feelings on that by saying that I feel they hate their customers, but know that they have them hooked on their products (EQ1 and 2.)

Sony is top notch in my book.
![]() I bought a Sony Grand Vega LCD rear projection TV last summer (which changed my life. I absolutely *love* this TV). The projection bulb came with a 90-day warranty. Of course, it blew within the 90-days but I got it replaced with no hassle at all. In fact, the serviceman said that the bulbs has become a "known issue" so Sony had voluntarily extended the warranty on them to a full year. I've never had any problems with my Sony DVD player or receiver, or my Vaio laptop. Thumbs up for Sony! _____________________

I've never had anything Sony that wasn't good quality. But I've never had experience with their computers (I no longer buy complete systems).
I have to agree with the poster that said that Cyberpower is good. I've never personally owned one of their models but I know several people who do and helped my girlfriend in setting up hers. They have been very reliable and cheap as far as I've seen. I check their site about once a month and am always surprised by their prices and custom cases. I must vehemently disagree about Compaqs, though. In my experience (with other people's, work's, or my own) they are very buggy. I used to own one myself a few years ago and it acted up frequently, crashing or sometimes even spontaneously running programs (no, it wasn't hacked). I had quotes from the AI in Ghost in the Shell set to sounds for actions and it would be a little disconcerting to be woken up in the middle of the night with the computer telling me "I am a living, thinking being created in a sea of information." _____________________

It doesn't matter what you think about them. Soon they will be beaming what they want you to think about them directly into your brain.

I've got two Sony products sitting in front of me right now. My DSC-T1 digital camera is a cute little camera, which actually shoots well considering that I can slip it into my pocket and forget it's there. The flash is poorly designed, and it tends to shoot very blurry shots if you're not perfectly stable, but I'm generally very happy with it. I've also got a DVD ROM which they produced. It's been troublesome since the day I bought it, and it hasn't improved, despite having been reincarnated in two different computers. It frequently fails to recognize disks, will stop responding at random, and often causes XP to hang. It is, quite frankly, the worst drive I've ever had. It was also exceptionally cheap. It seems that, with Sony, you generally have to pay a premium for quality. Otherwise, your risk of purchasing a product that is no good drastically increases.

If they really made a real matrix like that, most people would be scared to death to even try it. All the kooky weird people would rise up and be all against it making up all kinds of excuses for mind control or giant machines taking over ![]() _____________________

Standard Oil of New York, also known as Sony, is great when it comes to technical devices and electronics, delivering a consistantly quality product. On the other hand, their online entertainment division is a textbook example of pitiful service and ignorance in the marketplace. Ignorance that has driven one of the longest running MMOs into the ground to the point that they are actually merging servers and advertising for people to 'save the game' by returning and paying more for 'veteran' rewards.
Pathetic. _____________________
