My Prayers to the Edwards Family

Partisan crap aside, my prayers go to the Edwards family, as Elizabeth was diagnosed with breast cancer the same day Kerry conceded.

Cancer has hit my family in the past, and it is not something I would wish on anyone.

I wonder how old Mrs. Edwards is? My mother was diagnosed in her early 40's, and the first thing the doctor told us was that her prognosis was much better than the one generally given to thirty-somethings. He didn't go into a lot of detail, but the obvious inference was that the potential for aggressive metastasis is heightened by a younger woman's increased hormone levels.

Mom pretty much followed to the letter the prevailing course for her diagnostic profile: 1) She suffered through a radical mastectomy, 2) She loathed herself for months and then adjusted, 3) She had about ten good years, and then 4) the serpent came slithering back up out of the central mammary chain and got her.

Cancer is such a vicious bastard of a disease; it has to toy with its prey before moving in for the kill. If I may, <soapbox> lady avies of ALL ages, please, PLEASE take an afternoon off and get yourselves checked. Guy avies with ladies: nag.</soapbox>
